Deportivo Dooradoyle (Ireland) are one of the longest-serving teams on the eurofootballfives.com circuit, with a rich history dating back to their 2011 debut in Amsterdam. Over the years, they've consistently proven themselves as strong knockout contenders, particularly in the Plate and Trophy competitions. Highlights include winning both the Plate and Trophy titles at the 2013 Barcelona Fives and reaching several Plate Finals across various tournaments. They've frequently competed with multiple squads under different names such as Depo Legends, Alabama Hotpockets, and Deportivo 2.0, often making deep runs in the knockout phases.

Their form in recent years shows continued resilience and competitiveness. In 2024 Mallorca, they reached the Cup Semi-Finals after finishing 2nd in their group, eventually falling to champions Team Rock. In 2023 Lisbon, they made the Plate Semi-Finals, and in 2019 Budapest, they famously defeated two former champions in the group phase. This resilience was on show today with 2 draws from their 2 games thus far. They would aim to build on this against FC Prelada but it would be a tough task as the Portuguese had just found their form in this tournament.

FC Prelada had won their last 2 games without conceding a goal and their only defeat came to the league leaders. On the field, the two teams locked horns in a tight, defensively disciplined encounter that ended 0-0. Both teams showcased strong organization at the back, with solid defensive lines and effective teamwork limiting clear scoring opportunities. Deportivo Dooradoyle's experience in managing pressure was evident, while FC Prelada matched their resilience with quick interceptions and timely tackles. The match was a testament to the defensive capabilities of both sides, as neither could find a breakthrough despite their best efforts.

Berkshirelona FC and Flying High played out one of the most entertaining and significant matches of Group A so far. Both teams entered the contest with plenty to play for – Berkshirelona sat in 3rd, hoping a win would take them within touching distance of a Cup qualification place, while Flying High were bottom of the group, desperate to turn around a relatively slow start to the day.

It was Flying High who struck the first blow, with Andrew Ford finding the net in the opening half to give the English side a much-needed boost and a 1-0 lead at the interval. Berkshirelona responded with determination and found an equaliser through Josh Davies, his composed finish setting up a tense finale. With momentum swinging, it looked as if Berkshirelona might go on to claim all three points.

However, Flying High were not finished yet. Showing great spirit and resilience, they dug deep and reclaimed the lead through a well-taken goal by Jaya Rees. His strike proved decisive and capped off a superb team performance. The 2-1 victory not only marked their first win of the tournament but also dramatically changed the complexion of the table – catapulting them from 7th place all the way up to 3rd. A vital win that reignites their hopes of progressing in the competition.

With the previous result, Mitre FC A were left at the foot of the Group A table. This was a huge surprise as the team had won the 2023 Barcelona Fives Plate and were Cup runners-up in Prague last summer. They were in desperate need of a win to revitalise their campaign. Their next opponents were Fylde FC Old Boys who came into the game on the back of their first win of the day.

These two teams had met in Prague 11 months ago. On that occasion it proved to be a comfortable win for Mitre FC A who won 5-0. Sam Pagano (3) and Joseph Atunrase (2) were the main tormentors that day. Mitre FC A desperately needed a repeat performance here in Porto – and they got it.

Surprisingly, Mitre FC A had drawn two blanks in front of goal today but they regained their scoring touch in this fixture – much to the chagrin of Fylde FC Old Boys no doubt. Sam Pagano opened the scoring as he did in Prague and he added a second to make it 2-0. At half-time, Mitre FC A were sitting pretty at 2-0.

As in Prague, Joseph Atunrase took over goal-scoring duties as he extended the lead to 3-0 and 4-0. There was to be no hat-trick for either Pagano or Atunrase but I'm sure they didn't mind as they wrapped up a 4-0 win. Mitre FC A were up and running in Group A. They were up to third place in the table and back in business.
