Game
5 saw Skidmarks 4Gs take on Bede FC, with both
teams seeking their first points after opening
losses. Amazingly, these two teams had not encountered
each other during the history of our tournaments.
Both teams began their association with us in
2011 and both have racked up 10+ tournaments
but their paths had never crossed….until now.
The
match started at a lively pace, and it was Rupert
Harvey who gave the English side an early lead,
putting Skidmarks 1-0 up and setting the tone
for an exciting contest. Bede FC responded well,
with Tom Broome scoring their first goal of
the day to level the match at 1-1 and keep their
hopes alive. Skidmarks 4Gs regained the advantage
when their player known as number “8” struck
to make it 2-1, before Harvey added his second
to extend the lead to 3-1. Bede FC refused to
give in, and Troy Grant pulled one back to make
it 3-2, setting up a tense finish as they pushed
for an equaliser.
In
the closing stages, Harvey completed his hat-trick,
scoring the decisive fourth goal to seal a 4-2
victory for Skidmarks 4Gs. It was a commanding
performance that showcased their attacking quality
and resilience, while Bede FC could take heart
from their fighting spirit and ability to stay
competitive against strong opposition.
