The
penultimate Group A match between New Ham United
and Postbusters FC carried plenty of tension,
with both teams knowing that only a win would
see them climb into third place and eliminate
Southgate County from Plate contention. A draw
would see Southgate County through at the expense
of these two teams. For Postbusters, it had been
a competitive tournament so far, with two draws
and two narrow one-goal defeats proving their
quality. New Ham United, on the other hand, came
into the game on the back of two defeats but were
determined to finish the group on a high note.
From
the outset, New Ham United asserted their authority
on the game. Mihai Harizomenov broke the deadlock
to put his side 1-0 up, and shortly after, Stefan
Manole doubled the lead, giving New Ham United
firm control. Karim El Sayed added a third before
halftime, making it 3-0 and giving his team a
commanding advantage.
In the second half, New Ham
United continued their dominance with Gavin Hamilton
scoring the fourth goal, putting the result beyond
doubt. Postbusters FC managed to grab a consolation
through Tim Raben, but it was too little, too
late. The match finished 4-1, a decisive win for
New Ham United that secured third place in the
group and ended Postbusters' hopes of Plate qualification,
while sending them home after a valiant tournament.
