Southgate
County's most recent appearance with us was at
the 2024 Prague Tournament. They had teams competing
in the Open Age and the Veterans. In the Open
Age section they began well with a 2-1 win over
The Shirker's Rest, 3-0 over BP Hatters, 2-0 over
Mitre FC B and 4-2 over Moles Salah B. The only
disappointment came with a 4-1 defeat to Foot
130 B in their final group game, a defeat that
cost them top spot in the table but they still
qualified for the Cup. The Cup Semi-Final was
a match too far as they lost to eventual champions
Foot 130 A, 9-1.
Southgate
County's next match was a contest between two
sides eager to register their first points of
the tournament. Both had suffered opening-game
defeats and knew that a positive result here was
crucial to kick-starting their campaigns. The
first half was a tense and evenly fought affair,
with both teams creating half-chances but lacking
the final touch in front of goal. As the halftime
whistle blew with the score still 0-0, the contest
remained finely poised and very much up for grabs.
The
deadlock was finally broken in the second half
by Joshua Smith, who produced a true captain's
performance for New Ham United. His first strike
not only gave his team the lead but also marked
their first-ever goal in eurofootballfives.com
competition. Smith doubled his tally shortly after
with another composed finish, putting New Ham
firmly in control at 2-0. Southgate County showed
great spirit to respond, with Jack Reed pulling
a goal back to make it 2-1, setting up a nervy
finale. However, New Ham United held their ground
and saw out the match with determination and composure.
The 2-1 victory gave them a first win in the tournament
and a much-needed confidence boost, while Southgate
County were left to rue a narrow defeat.
