Group
A, Game 8 brought together two teams at opposite
ends of the early standings as World Pinteur of
France met Colonel Getafe of England.
World
Pinteur's last appearance with us was at the 2024
Krakow Trophy where they endured a mixed set of
results in Group A, where they proved difficult
to beat but ultimately struggled to convert draws
into wins. They opened with a fine 2-0 victory
over Big Time Krakow but were then held to a goalless
draw by Third Degree Burnley and 1-1 draws with
RSC Andylecht and Ball Bashers. Their sole defeat
was a 3-0 loss to Solly March FC which was particularly
damaging in the context of all those draws. Their
record of one win, three draws and one loss left
them in fourth place with six points, enough to
qualify for the Plate competition. In the Semi-Finals
they met Barrymoore's Swim Club and pushed them
all the way before bowing out 2-1. It was a spirited
campaign from the French side, showing defensive
resilience and plenty of competitive edge even
if results didn't quite fall their way.
It
was a similar story today as the French side had
shown flashes of promise in their opening two
fixtures but had just one point to show for their
efforts and were in need of a result to reignite
their campaign. Colonel Getafe, by contrast, had
made an excellent start with two wins from two
and were chasing a third consecutive victory to
keep pace with fellow group leaders CF Dons. The
first half was evenly contested, with World Pinteur
defending resolutely and frustrating Colonel Getafe's
attacking threats. Chances were limited at both
ends, and the teams went in level at 0-0 at half-time.
The
deadlock was finally broken after the interval,
and it was Andrew Simpson who made the difference
for Colonel Getafe. His well-taken finish — his
second goal of the tournament — proved to be the
decisive moment of the match. World Pinteur battled
hard to find a way back but couldn't find the
breakthrough against a disciplined English defence.
The final whistle confirmed a 1-0 victory for
Colonel Getafe, maintaining their 100% record
and moving them level on points with CF Dons at
the top of Group A. For World Pinteur, it was
another frustrating outing in which effort and
organisation went unrewarded.
