It was Cup Final time in Barcelona. After 51 games of football we came down to the most important of them all. Game 52, the match that would determine the 2023 Barcelona Fives champions. Who would be celebrating at the presentation in just under an hour's time?

This is how we lined-up:

Norfolk N Chance (Eng)

Best appearance to date: 2022 Barcelona Fives Winners

Record today: Played 7, Won 6, Drawn 1, Lost 0.

Goal difference today: 21-4

Current unbeaten run: 12 games (dating back to last year)

Today's top goalscorer: Joe Sames (9)

Clean sheets: 4

Sharks (Spa)

Best appearance to date: 2021 Barcelona Fives Runners Up

Record today: Played 7, Won 4, Drawn 3, Lost 0.

Goal difference today: 11-2

Current unbeaten run: 7 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Roel Renken (5)

Clean sheets: 5

This promised to be a fascinating game – it was our top scorers versus the team with the second best defence in the tournament. It was the 2022 winners versus the 2021 runners-up, it was two teams who were unbeaten today and it was two teams who had drawn 1-1 when they met earlier in the tournament.

Norfolk N Chance were bidding to become the first team to successfully defend the Barcelona Fives title. Across our destinations, in 17 years, only 3 teams have successfully defended a title: Athletico Do Hollande (2010 & 2011 Algarve Open), Ecuador 100% (2019, 2022 & 2023 Mallorca Fives) and JNJ Turkey (2019 & 2020 JNJ Tournament).

The game itself was played with a great atmosphere as the other teams all assembled pitch-side to watch the show-piece game of the day. The game ebbed and flowed with both teams trying to attack. Both teams created chances and goals were aplenty as the game swung from end to end.

It was Savvas Eftychidis who got Sharks off to the perfect start as the Spanish went 1-0 up. Norfolk N Chance were not behind for long though as Joe Sames moved into double figures for the day to make it 1-1. Sharks regained the lead when Savvas Eftychidis struck for the fifth time today. Norfolk N Chance were not going away though and they equalized for a second time and again it was Joe Sames.

At 2-2 this game could have gone either way and a penalty shootout was also a very real option. Penalties were made redundant by a fifth and deciding goal. That goal came from Joe Sames as he sealed his third hat-trick of the day and, more importantly, clinched the 2023 Barcelona Fives title to add to the 2022 crown.

If that wasn't enough, Joe Sames won the golden boot for the second year in a row with 12 goals. He now had 21 goals in 16 games in Barcelona which was a fantastic return.

Our commiserations go to Sharks who were runners-up in a Cup Final for the second time in 3 years. It had been a fantastic day's performance from them. They were inching closer and could not have done much more today. Third time lucky in a Cup Final next season?

Our congratulations go to Norfolk N Chance on a historic moment by winning back-to-back Barcelona Fives – the first team to do so. They became only the 6th team to win their first two eurofootballfives.com appearances (also Olympic Phil Babb, Athletico Do Hollande, Skidmarks, ABC United, Big Time Krakow). Who knows what records they could go on and break in the future!
