Two rounds to go and 6 games of football left on the schedule to decide the teams' fates in Group B. Mitre FC B and Substandard Liege would take to the field for their fifth games. Mitre FC B had been our league leaders at the end of Round 2 but two defeats in a row had seen them slip to fourth place in the table but certainly they were still in the hunt for Cup qualification but they had to arrest their run of defeats and really needed a win to give them a chance going into the final round of fixtures.

Substandard Liege found themselves in 7 th position in this extremely competitive group. Although they were bottom they only had a goal difference of -4 so they certainly hadn't been outclassed. Look at the equivalent team in Group A and you would see a goal difference of -24 for comparison. A win here could see Substandard Liege climb to fourth place in the table.

They proved to be anything but Substandard in this game as they recorded the biggest win in Group B. Tim Smith opened the scoring before Patrick Coulter made it 2-0. Tim Smith then took his tally for the game to two and total for the tournament to three. Mitre FC B had no response in terms of goals as Substandard Liege ran out 3-0 winners. It was a great result for them and reward for keeping going as sometimes a bad run of results (even if performances are good) can see heads drop.

For Mitre FC B it was a third defeat in succession which probably meant the end of their Cup hopes.

The defeat for Mitre FC B certainly helped the teams above them and it was now arguably 2 teams from 3 to reach the Cup competition. Club Esportiu Llefia were top by 3 points and could clinch their Cup Semi-Final berth with victory over third placed Barrymoore's Swimming Club.

Conversely, a win for Barrymoore's Swimming Club would see them join their Spanish opponents at the top. If this was to happen and Bjorn Helge Riise's Pieces won the game following this we could be looking at 3 teams locked together on 12 points going into Round 6. However, that was all theoretical.

The practical was now occurring on Pitch D and it was Club Esportiu Llefia who were on their way to victory number 5. Still no-one had been unable to lock that steadfast defence. Barrymoore's Swimming Club were the latest team to try and fail to score past Ramon Betat Segu. Francisco Lorenzo Gonzalez had scored many a goal in previous editions of the tournament but was yet to score today…until now. In goal-scoring terms he was the difference between the two sides as he scored twice to secure a 2-0 win to Club Esportiu Llefia.

Barrymoore's Swimming Club's Cup hopes were still alive but now out of their hands.

That left us with Bjorn Helge Riise's Pieces and Mardons FC to complete Round 6. The previous result on Pitch D had given Bjorn Helge Riise's Pieces a huge boost as it meant they could potentially open up a 3 point lead with just one game to go versus their nearest challengers in their quest to reach the Cup.

Mardons FC needed the points themselves though. Substandard Liege's win had seen them drop to sixth in the table and the battle to avoid elimination was very much on in the lower half of the table. This was Mardons FC's last game in the group and naturally their last chance to put points on the board. They could go up to fourth with a win which would guarantee Plate qualification.

With Bjorn Helge Riise's Pieces winning their last 3 games 1-0, it seemed we were in for déjà vu as Stewart Astle put his side 1-0 up and on course for a fourth consecutive win. However, Mardons FC had other ideas. Tom Cook bagged an equalizer to end Bjorn Helge's impressive run of victories and open the door for Barrymoore's Swimming Club at the top. The result also ensured Club Esportiu Llefia would definitely win Group B – well done to them.

From their own point of view it was another point on the board for Mardons FC. It kept them in fifth place but strengthened their position a little as the two teams below them were due to meet in Round 6. Had Mardons FC lost here, a draw between those two teams could have seen them slip to sixth. Now, Mardons FC were guaranteed to reach the Plate.
