Barrymoore's Swim Club (Eng)

Round 3 started with Dumpling CF versus Barrymoore Swimming Club. Although it was a bit early to look at the league table, the two teams were each on 3 points in joint second place.

Barrymoore's Swimming Club made their debut here at the 2016 Barcelona Fives (as Beercalona). It was an impressive start as they picked up 4 successive wins before a defeat to 2008 Krakow Trophy winners Red Light Runners. The result seemed to knock them off their stride as they then finished with a 0-0 draw (admittedly against 2013 Barcelona Fives winners Los Swallacticos) and a surprise 1-0 defeat to Drunk Perfect. They finished 2nd in their 8-team group though to qualify for the elite Cup competition. In the Quarter-Finals they went out to Me Toca Tirar (Spa), 2-1.

Against Dumpling CF they were looking to make it 2 successive wins to open up the tournament and they succeeded as Ryan Reed scored for the second game in a row. With a clean sheet at the other end they rounded off another victory and joined Mitre FC B at the top of Group B.

We went into Game 8 of Group B with Club Esportiu Llefia (Spa) due to meet Substandard Liege (Eng).

In 2021, Club Esportiu Llefia became the first team to win two Barcelona Fives titles. They began well with a 5-1 win over Old Boys Blue Magic Dublin and a 6-0 win over Son Les Onze. They then slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Sharks but recovered to win their final group game 3-0 against FC Dad to secure second place in the table and Cup qualification. In the Cup Semi-Finals they were victorious 2-0 against Maresmex to set up a final against Sharks. Club Esportiu Llefia gained their revenge on Sharks to win 3-2 and become Barcelona Fives champions for the second time.

They began their quest for a third title well this morning with a 1-0 win over Bjorn Helge Riise's Pieces. They were on the winning trail again when Ivan Moreno Gomez opened the scoring in this game. Javi Cuadrado Ordonez doubled the lead and with Ramon Betat Segu keeping his second clean sheet of the day, Club Esportiu Llefia wrapped up win number two and became the third team to move onto 6 points in Group B.

The next game was the encounter between Mardons FC and Barrymoore's Swimming Club. Barrymoore's had won both their games so far that meant they were on a run of 9 games unbeaten in the group phase of our tournaments and they'd won 8 of those 9 matches. It was a daunting prospect for Mardons FC to face them as they'd taken 1 point from a possible 9 so far.

Nothing is guaranteed in these competitions though and we witnessed the shock of the day so far – and that's nothing against Mardons FC but everything to do with Barrymoore's record that we mentioned above. Dan Jennings and Matt Jennings scored the goals that secured the victory for Mardons FC and they did it by keeping their second clean sheet in four games to boot.

‘If you don't concede any goals you'll win more games than you lose.' – Bobby Moore

Well, it certainly helps!

Mardons FC were up to fourth place in the table. Barrymoore's remained joint top on 6 points but were in third place on goal difference plus the top two had games in hand.
