With 7 teams in each group, 1 team would sit out each round. In Round 1 it was Sharks (Spa) but they would kick us off in the second round of fixtures having had a chance to evaluate their opposition from Round 1. They were up against John Arne Riises's Pieces (Eng). Despite playing in the previous Group A game, there was a 30 minute gap between their last fixture and this one.

In their first game, John Arne Riises's Pieces had enjoyed a superb 3-0 victory against Apolo Leyendas. They would no doubt be looking to make it 2 wins from 2 and go to the summit of Group A. However, Sharks would not prove to be easy opposition. Both teams competed in the 2021 edition of this tournament with Sharks reaching the Cup Final whilst John Arne Riises's Pieces (playing as The Basemen) went into the Wooden Spoon game.

The two teams didn't meet directly in 2021 so this would represent their first encounter on the field of play. It was Sharks who drew first blood with Tom Frumerman the man on target. John Arne Riises's Pieces were unable to breach the Sharks defence whilst at the other end Tom Frumerman scored a second to secure all 3 points and a winning start for the Spanish team.

It was defeat for John Arne Riises's Pieces but they were one of four teams on 3 points at the top of Group A with plenty of games left to advance their campaign.

RSC Andylecht most recently they competed at the 2022 Mallorca Fives. They got off to a solid start with a 2-2 draw against Swiss side Luca Toni FC and a 0-0 draw against Los Froggies del Patron. A 2-1 win against Deportivo Dooradoyle (Ire) followed before a 3-0 win over Lindfield FC C and a 5-0 win over Malo Guerreros. It meant they finished Group B unbeaten in second place in the table to qualify for the Cup. A tough draw meant they met Ecuador 100% (winners in 2019, 2022 and 2023) in the Quarter-Final and they went out 5-1.

They also had a tough opening game here against the defending champions, Norfolk N Chance, and would be looking to bounce back quickly. They were up against another team in Kiwi FC who were looking to respond to an opening game defeat.

John Good opened the scoring for RSC Andylecht and they never looked back. Usmaan Dar made it 2-0 before John Good scored again for 3-0. A Josh Thorpe double took the score to 5-0. Usmaan Dar added his second to make it 6-0 leaving 3 men on a possible hat-trick. John Good was one of those men and he completed his hat-trick and the scoring in a thunderous 7-0 win for RSC Andylecht.

The final game of Round 2 was Apolo Leyendas against Mitre FC A. The former were looking to bounce back from an opening game defeat whilst the latter were aiming to make it 2 wins from 2 after a fine 5-0 win first time out.

Apolo Leyendas (Ned) made their first appearance in our events just 3 months ago at the 2023 Amsterdam Sevens. They began well with a 1-0 win over Billit Dreamz before successive defeats against Dynamo Leila (3-1) and Humble Goats (2-0). An important 1-0 win over Bear Ballers was followed by a 1-0 win over FNF on Tour which saw them rise to 2 nd in the table and a place in the Cup. Their tournament was ended by Danish side Uden Filter in the Semi-Finals, 3-0.

They were finding life tougher here in Barcelona as they found themselves behind for the second game running. Samuele Pagano bagged a hat-trick in Mitre FC A's first game and he was the man who broke the deadlock for them here. Harry de Babby then opened his personal account as he doubled the English team's lead.

The match finished 2-0 and it represented a superb start for Mitre FC A. They were top of Group A, had a maximum 6 points, were free scoring with 7 goals and goalkeeper Ryan Reynolds had two clean sheets.
