Up first on Pitch D were Mardons FC and Substandard Liege in the early kick-off. The two teams had nothing to show for their efforts in terms of goals but each picked up a point in a 0-0 draw.

Match 2 in Group B saw Mitre FC B versus Dumpling CF. Both teams were on debut and about to mark their bow not only in Barcelona Fives competition but also eurofootballfives.com competition.

Mitre FC B seemed to take to European football like the proverbial duck to water. It was they who hit the front in this tie. Adam Smith had the honour of scoring his team's first goal in European competition – one for the record books. The lead was doubled for Mitre FC when Marlon Moore made it 2-0 and they looked on course for all 3 points.

Dumpling CF then announced themselves to the tournament with their first goal – scored by Rob Huckle. At 2-1 they were back in the game but unfortunately for them time was against them and Mitre FC B ran out 2-1 winners.

The next two teams to get underway in Round 1 were Substandard Liege and Barrymoore's Swimming Club.

Barrymoore's Swimming Club last appeared at our events at the 2017 Lisbon Tournament. They got off to a flyer with 3-0 wins over PMPCAR, ADP Netherlands and Retainers Academy before wins against Brewin Dolphin (1-0), Cruz Del Sur B (4-0) and Leave It FC (2-0). They finished the group phase with a 0-0 draw against Indoorsoccer as they won Group A. In the Cup Quarter-Finals they drew Cruz Del Sur A and went out in a surprise result – to the only goal they conceded all day.

We'd had to re-arrange the schedule to some flight issues meaning Bjorn Helge Riise's Pieces were flying in this morning instead of yesterday so we delayed their fixtures. It meant Substandard Liege were playing twice in Round 1 and had opened up with a 0-0 draw. They were looking to build upon this result but found themselves a goal down when Tony Bramley put Barrymoore's Swimming Club ahead.

Substandard Liege were back in the game when Tim Smith equalised for 1-1. It wasn't enough for a second point of the tournament though as Barrymoore's Swimming Club were back in front through Ryan Reed. The Reed goal proved to be the winner and it was all 3 points for the ‘away' team.
