Going into the final round of games, we began with Substandard Liege versus Dumpling CF. This was a battle to reach the Plate competition and avoid elimination. When the referee would blow the final whistle at the end of this contest, one of these teams knew they would be going home.

So, who was it to be? A win for either team would guarantee their safe passage into the Plate. A quick look at the league standings showed Substandard Liege were a point ahead of their opponents so a draw would suit them nicely. They came into the game on the back of a morale-boosting 3-0 win and so the pressure was on Dumpling CF to pull something out of the fire. They would have to go for the victory which simultaneously made them vulnerable to defeat should they not keep the back door closed in the search for goals.

The first goal would be crucial and it went to Rob Huckle and Dumpling CF. The goal changed the whole dynamic of the game as it was now Substandard Liege who had to risk things in the search of an equalizer. As they did, Dumpling CF extended their lead to 2-0 through Rob Huckle again. It took Huckle's tally to the tournament to an impressive 5 in 6 games. There was no way back for Substandard Liege as just as their Round 6 heroics looked like they'd survive then their hopes were dashed. It's the hope that kills you.

Dumpling CF had pulled off a great victory and would rise from 7th to 4th showing just how tight Group B was.

Club Esportiu Llefia's start to the 2023 campaign was their best ever with 5 wins out of 5 – even more successful than their title winning seasons of 2015 and 2021. They would dearly love to keep that run going and end Group B with a 100% record. Whatever happened they had won the group and were looking good for the Cup Semi-Final draw.

Their opponents Mitre FC B had just dropped to fifth position on goal difference courtesy of Dumpling CF's win in the previous fixture. They would be hoping to stop the rot in terms of defeats and re-create their early group phase form. Not only could this give them a preferable Quarter-Final tie but it would also be a timely confidence boost going into the knockout phase. Many a time have we seen a team with their final group game and then go on a run to win the Plate.

This game went with the form book though as Club Esportiu Llefia completed a clinical win with goals from Ivan Moreno Gomez and Javi Cuadrado Ordonez. There was an impressive sixth clean sheet for Ramon Betat Segu who went through the entire group phase without conceding – a rare achievement. They were certainly amongst the favourites to win this title.

The only thing left to decide in Group B was the small matter of second and third places. It was also the difference between qualifying for the Cup and keeping title hopes alive or progressing to the Plate competition.

The teams set to do battle were Barrymoore's Swimming Club and Bjorn Helge Riise's Pieces. At kick-off it was Bjorn Helge Riise's Pieces who held the advantage with 10 points on the board compared to 9 points for Barrymoore's Swimming Club. Bjorn Helge Riise's Pieces only needed a draw whilst nothing less than a win would be good enough for their opponents. Barrymoore's Swimming Club were aiming to qualify for the Cup for the third time in three events at our tournaments.

The first goal of this game was always going to be crucial but in a group of relatively few goals this was even more important. When the goal game it was from Jay Lambert of Barrymoore's Swimming Club. In the “live” league table they had leapfrogged their opponents and so it was Bjorn Helge Riise's Pieces who needed to come from behind. They'd proven they were great front runners today having scored first in 4 of their 5 previous games and going unbeaten in all 4. In the game they fell behind in, they failed to recover but, to be fair, that was against our league leaders today. Chasing is always difficult in these tournaments and it's hard enough at 1-0 so when Darren made it 2-0 to Barrymoore's Swimming Club the game was almost up.

There was to be no further score and huge congratulations to Barrymoore's Swimming Club for pulling out a superb result with the pressure on. They would be one of the final four in the hunt for the 2023 title. Bjorn Helge Riise's Pieces would narrowly miss out but be amongst the favourites for the Plate title.
