Norfolk N Chance were the team to sit out the second round of fixtures so they had a game in hand over most of the teams in Group A. They made their debut 12 months ago here in Barcelona. It was quite a debut as they ended up storming to victory. They began with a 3-2 win over 2008 champions Rapid Bosco Navas. They beat Littleborough FC 3-0 before a narrow 1-0 defeat to 2017 champions L'Albiceleste of France. They were back to winning ways with a 4-1 win over Poland's Polonia Limerick and a 1-0 win over BBA Veterans to win Group C. In the Cup Quarter-Finals they defeated W London 2-1 before seeing off EMC French Nuts (3-2) in the Semi-Finals. In the Cup Final they met FC Yol and secured victory with a 2-1 win.

They were up against the team at the bottom in the form of Kiwi FC so had a chance to return to joint top. From a Kiwi FC perspective, having lost your first two games the last team they would have wanted to play is the defending champions.

The game went with the form book with Joe Sames scoring the opening two goals of the game. Ash Baker and Kurtis Upton each scored their first goals of the tournament for 4-0. Joe Sames completed his second hat-trick in as many games to make it 5-0 before Kurtis Upton's second. Josh Sullivan rounded off the scoring as the match finished 7-0.

Game 8 of Group A was Mitre FC A versus Sharks. Both teams had 100% records so far. Mitre FC A currently shared top spot on 6 points with Norfolk N Chance. Sharks had a game in hand having just played once so far.

12 months ago at the 2022 edition of the tournament Sharks began superbly with a 4-2 win Argon'ze A (Fra). They followed that up with wins over CBT FC (2-1), RAF Boulmer (1-0) and EMC French Nuts (2-0). A 0-0 draw against FC Yol spoiled a 100% record but they still won Group A and remained unbeaten. Due to the vagaries of the draw they met FC Yol again in the Cup Quarter Finals but suffered a 2-1 defeat.

Although relatively early in the group, this could well be a game that decides which of these teams would qualify for the Cup and which would make the Plate. It was of course possible for both teams to qualify for the Cup but Norfolk N Chance would have a say in that.

On the field these were two evenly matched and quality teams. As the game progressed it was clear there was little to choose between the sides. With the game reaching its conclusion it looked like the odd goal would win it but the goal never came. Neither of these sides had conceded in the tournament to date and so it was maybe no surprise that this match ended goalless. Only time would tell if this was a point gained or two points lost.

To complete Round 3 was RSC Andylecht versus Apolo Leyendas. RSC Andylecht entered the game on a high having just secured a resounding 7-0 win against Kiwi FC. Another victory here could see them move up to joint second in the table on 6 points.

Apolo Leyendas had excelled at the 2023 Amsterdam Sevens going all the way to the Cup Semi-Finals. However, they had tasted defeat twice this morning and desperately needed to pick up some points here in Barcelona to kick-start their campaign. The Dutch team were yet to score a goal and so when RSC Andylecht took the lead they must have feared the worst.

John Good scored a hat-trick in their last fixture and would no doubt come into this game with confidence. He scored his fourth goal of the tournament to give RSC Andylecht the lead.

Apolo Leyendas did break their tournament duck in front of goal as Pau Say recorded their first goal of the event. It proved to be an important goal as it earned his team their first point of the day. In terms of the table they remained in sixth place but they now had something to build on.

The draw pushed RSC Andylecht up to third and above Sharks on goal difference.
