Round 7 would kick-off with Sharks versus Apolo Leyendas. They began the round in third place on goal difference but were very well placed with the top two due to face each other. That meant a win would be good enough to qualify for the Cup and may even win them Group A subject to results in that other game. Anything less than a win would leave them in trouble. If Sharks drew this game then they would need Norfolk N Chance to beat Mitre FC A. If they were to lose, they would need Mitre FC A to lose by 2 more goals than them.

The game didn't prove to be as straightforward as Sharks would have hoped. Apolo Leyendas, despite a difficult group phase for them, put in a great performance and keenly contested the match. There was very little between the two teams. Roel Renken had been the hero in the previous game scoring all four goals and he continued in his rich vein of form by opening the scoring in this game.

From an Apolo Leyendas a win would see them move up into fourth place but they would be happy now if they could rescue a point that could see them climb to fifth. Sharks had only conceded one goal all day but the pressure of the situation could have told. It didn't. Sharks held on to their 1-0 advantage and won the game that sealed a third Cup qualification in three events – a great achievement.

The 20th game of Group A was the big one. It was Mitre FC A versus Norfolk N Chance. With Sharks victory in the previous game only one of these teams would progress to the Cup and one would have to settle for the Plate which would seem extremely harsh given the performances of both in Group A. Both teams were still unbeaten and Mitre FC A had only conceded once. This was effectively a Cup Quarter-Final in the sense it was winner takes all. Norfolk N Chance had a points advantage though so it meant they only needed a draw to secure their place in the Cup. Their title defence was on the line.

With Norfolk N Chance only needing a draw you felt that Mitre FC A needed to score first – they didn't. It was first blood to Norfolk N Chance thanks to a Kurtis Upton strike and they had one foot in the Cup. When Joe Sames made it 2-0 they were almost safely through as their opponents now needed to score 3. That task was reduced to 2 goals when Samuele Pagano was on target for Mitre FC A.

Any hopes of a Mitre FC A comeback were quoshed when Ash Baker made it 3-1 and that sealed the Group A title and Cup qualification for Norfolk N Chance – very well done to them. For Mitre FC A it was very harsh, just 1 defeat and they missed out on the Cup. You would think they would be favourites to win the Plate based on this group performance.

Pitch D was the venue for the final fixture of Group A as John Arne Riise's Pieces took on Kiwi FC. For John Arne Riise's Pieces they could finish 4th with a win, 5th with a draw and a defeat of 3 goals or more would see them slip to 6th position. Pride was obviously at stake in this game but, more importantly, the higher up the table they finished the easier the Plate Quarter-Final tie would be (in theory anyway).

Kiwi FC were playing for pride as they knew this would be their last game whatever the result of this match so a result here would make those post-match beers taste that little bit sweeter.

With the game underway it was John Arne Riise's Pieces who struck first through Chris Maydom. Captain Charles Walmsley made it 2-0 before Patrick Gildersleve put them in full control at 3-0. Gildersleve was on target again for 4-0 before arguably the biggest cheer of the group phase.

With the clock running down on Kiwi FC's presence in this event and still to score a goal, they finally got the goal they had craved all day. Louis Harknett was the man with the golden touch to spark wild celebrations.

Charles Warmsley scored his second of the game to complete a 5-1 win and give John Arne Riise's Pieces momentum going into the knockout phase.
