The
above result meant that the Tulip Sniffers FC
v Salter's Assaulters game was essentially a
dead rubber in terms of Cup/Plate qualification
and elimination. However, that didn't mean there
was nothing to play for. Tulip Sniffers FC would
want to bow out on a high and get some points
on the board that their abilities had merited.
Salter's Assaulters had lost their last two
games and would want to build some momentum
going into the Plate.
The
two teams treated us to a thrilling contest
and our highest scoring first half in the group
as the teams racked up 5 goals between them.
It was Salter's Assaulters who drew first blood.
Nathan Salter and Jack Compton were both on
target again as they established a 2-0 lead.
Tulip Sniffers FC staged a rapid fire comeback
with Kit Haig halving the deficit before Will
McCreery levelled the tie at 2-2. Jack Compton
restored the lead before half-time.
That
fifth goal could have been a psychological killer
for Tulip Sniffers FC but they responded again
as Gus Hill's second of the day restored parity
again at 3-3. Salter's Assaulters took the lead
for the third time with Nathan Salter putting
them 4-3 up but they could not shake off the
Tulip Sniffers. Another equalizer came in the
form of a Ross Bennett goal as we were now all
square at 4-4. Perhaps it was fitting the teams
shared the points after such an entertaining
game. Well done to both teams. Although Tulip
Sniffers FC exited the competition they did
with their heads held high. Salter's Assaulters
had a Plate Semi-Final to prepare for.
