Group D was really up for grabs with any of the six teams still able to win the group and six teams still able to finish bottom. The teams had just two games left to stake their claim in Group D and progress in the highest possible competition for the knock-out phase.

First up was Team Extreme against Panteras. Team Extreme were on a good little run with two wins out of two coming into the game. Panteras would also be on a high having just beaten the league leaders. If you looked at these two teams there was nothing between them – largely because they had exactly the same kit! Fortunately, Panteras had an away strip to wear to avoid having to wear our supply of bibs.

With the game underway it was advantage Spain as goals from Jose Maria Domenech Sozer and Jose Ignacio Garcia Poveda helped them to a 2-1 lead at the break. Majid El-Amin's third goal of the tournament kept Team Extreme in with a shout of making it three games in a row.

That possibility looked increasingly likely as El-Amin made it 2-2 in the second half but neither team could find a winner and the teams had to settle for a point each. It was a better point for Team Extreme than Panteras but the extra two points for a win would have been so valuable. Anyway, only time would tell if this was a point gained or two points dropped.

Next up were our league leaders Gotti United against Los Langeros. Having just suffered defeat, Gotti United needed a positive result to bounce back and re-affirm their status at the top which was only goal difference. Irish team Los Langeros came into the game on the back of their first win and would hope to capitalize on their opponents recent defeat which would actually put them level on points.

Irish hopes did not last long though as Gotti United wasted no time in going 2-0 up thanks to Dean Brown and Andy Hanak. The teams turned round after the break and Gotti United continued where they left off as Christopher Probst made it 3-0 and there was no way back for Los Langeros.

It was a crucial win for Gotti United who opened up a 2 point gap at the top (although CBD Boys had a game in hand) and their chances of Cup qualification were looking good. The result was a blow to Los Langeros though who, with a game to go, realistically were fighting for qualification for the Plate or Trophy.

The next game saw Sporting Abeergut host CBD Boys. The former were looking to arrest a slide of two successive defeats whilst CBD Boys had just tasted defeat for the first time after opening up with two wins. The Oman team were in the same boat as Gotti United above and they needed to match their English rivals by hitting straight back with a win.

Like Gotti United, CBD Boys led 2-0 at the break. In the second half there were goals galore for both teams. Matt Johnson grabbed two for Sporting Abeergut but gaps at the back meant they conceded four more to slide to a 6-2 defeat. Amr Ahmed was the chief architect of their downfall bagging four goals ably assisted by Sean Cuthbertson and Adrian Tavain.

It was a very valuable win for CBD Boys who joined Gotti United at the top. Sporting Abeergut remained in 5th position.
