Shahs of Sunset would go into Round 3 with confidence having just picked up their first win. Their opponents would be Bristol Bridge who were yet to pick up a point. However, it should be noted that Bristol Bridge had so far played Luminy Wolves and Atletico Nacional who, I'm sure no-one would argue, were the best two teams in the group.

Bristol Bridge still had three games to get their Valencia challenge on track but they needed to start picking up points now. It did not start well though as Shahs of Sunset picked up from where they left off in Round 2 forging a 2-0 lead by the break.

Bristol Bridge got back into in the second half with a Lee Roberts goal but a third goal from Shahs of Sunset ensured it would be they who collected all three points in a 3-1 win. The goalscorers for Shahs of Sunset were Martin Weltman (2) and Gabriele Nardo.

Team Also Ran were also yet to pick-up a point but could consider themselves unlucky with narrow defeats. They faced a tough task to break their duck in Round 3 as they were scheduled to play Atletico Nacional.

The Spanish team had a 100% record thus far scoring an impressive 11 goals and conceding just one. Could the Irish underdogs spring a surprise?

I am sure everyone watching would hope so but Atletico Nacional continued their good form and fine start to the tournament opening up a 3-1 lead in the first half. There was no remorse in the second period as by the final whistle the margin of victory was extended to 5-1.

Captain Paul Torsney scored Team Also Ran's goal which was merely a consolation as Atletico Nacional made it three wins out of three and looked in a commanding position at the top of Group A.

To complete Round 3 was Saga Louts versus Luminy Wolves. With Atletico Nacional moving on to 9 points the gauntlet had been thrown down to the French team to see if they could keep pace with the current league leaders and match their 100% start to the tournament.

Saga Louts stood in their way having opened up with a victory but just suffered defeat in Round 2. Saga Louts put in an impressive display in the first half and for the most part matched their illustrious opponents. The game was a physical one which matched fire with fire and one solitary strike from Haikel Ben Khelifa separated the teams as the French led 1-0.

In the second half Najim Ait El Asri made it 2-0 before Anthony Balzano completed the scoring for 3-0 and secured the win for Luminy Wolves. In amongst the action was a fine penalty save from Saga Louts goalkeeper James Mimpress…..did he mention it all? Probably not straight afterwards as the penalty strike floored the shot stopper who put his face on the line to prevent a French goal.

Luminy Wolves had matched Atletico Nacional and joined them on 9 points at the top but sat in second place on goal difference. Saga Louts sat in 4th position.
