Round 2 of Group A began with Shahs of Sunset taking on Team Also Ran. Both teams had slipped to opening game defeats but only by narrow margins so each of these two teams would hope to register their first points here.

We reached half-time in this one and there was nothing between the two teams with the match all square at 1-1. The goals from Anes Jusic (Shahs of Sunset) and Niall Quinn (Team Also Ran) were the first goals of the day for either side.

Whilst a point would be welcome, all three points would clearly be a better return. Who could push on and take victory? There was to be a further strike in this game and the goalscoring hero was Gabriele Nardo for the Shahs of Sunset who earned his team a 2-1 victory. It was just what they needed after a deafeat to the French and would give them confidence for the rest of Group A.

The result was a tough blow for Team Also Ran – two defeats in two games and both by the narrowest of margins. They sat at the foot of the table but with three games left had time to turn things around.

In the next game Bristol Bridge were looking to emulate Shahs of Sunset by turning opening game defeat into second game victory. Their task would certainly not be easy as they faced Luminy Wolves.

Luminy Wolves had an unbelievable record in the group stages of eurofootballfives.com tournaments. Including their first game win here it read:

Played: 17

Won: 15

Drawn: 2

Lost: 0

Incidentally, it was two Hungarian teams that had taken those draws (FC Miracle, Barca Fives 2011 and Budapest Celtic Lions, Budapest Fives 2012). They had scored 62 goals and conceded just 9. That was the size of the task facing Bristol Bridge.

The English team did pretty well scoring twice through Paul Kelly and Lee Roberts but they were unable to prevent the French attack at the other end and goals from Haikel Ben Khelifa (3), Mohamed Yousfi, Najim Ait El Asri and Byllel Ben Khelifa ensured it was an 18 th group game unbeaten. Final score, 6-2.

So, with Luminy Wolves moving on to six points and making it two wins out of two, could Saga Louts or Atletico Nacional join the French team at the top with victory here?

In an evenly contested opening period it was Atletico Nacional who edged ahead in the quest for the win and it was they who entered half-time 1-0 up. It was a lead that they were to extend in the second half and although Dave Tyrell found the net for Saga Louts it was only to be a consolation as the Spanish team ran out 4-1 victors.

The win put the Spanish on top, with the French in 2nd and the teams from England and Ireland following in the footsteps occupying positions three to six.
