The
Barcelona Super Veterans (45+) 5-a-side Tournament
marked eurofootballfives.com's 21st event in the
stunning city of Barcelona , and it was another
fantastic occasion in one of Europe's finest football
destinations. Blessed with glorious sunshine,
top-quality facilities, and a truly international
line-up, the day promised everything that makes
this tournament series so special — great football,
great camaraderie, and a shared passion for the
beautiful game.
This
year's edition brought together teams from England,
Poland, Spain, Ukraine, and the USA, each adding
their own flair and spirit to the competition.
With plenty of goals, drama, and memorable moments,
the stage was perfectly set for another classic
Barcelona tournament.
The
opening game of Group A saw JK Silvertown get
their Barcelona campaign off to a winning start
with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bristol Wanderers.
It was a well-contested encounter between two
evenly matched teams, with both sides showing
plenty of energy and intent despite the warm Catalan
sunshine. JK Silvertown's experience and sharpness
in front of goal ultimately proved the difference
as they edged ahead in a competitive and entertaining
fixture.
Steve
Starkey and Jordan Wilson Pritchard found the
net for JK Silvertown, each taking their chances
well to give their team an early boost in the
group standings. Ben Daniel was on target for
Bristol Wanderers, registering not just his team's
first goal of the day but also their first ever
in eurofootballfives.com competition — a moment
to remember despite the result. Although the Wanderers
couldn't find an equaliser late on, their performance
suggested they would be no pushovers in the games
to come.

The
first phase of the 2025 Barcelona Super Veterans
Tournament would be decided on a group basis.
There was to be two groups with 6 teams in each
group. Each team would play each other team
in their group once and therefore 5 group games.
After which, depending on position, they will
progress to the Cup or Plate competition.
The
teams finishing 1st and 2nd in each group would
progress to the Cup competition.
This would be played as a knock-out phase with
Semi-Finals and Final. The teams finishing 3rd
and 4th in each group would progress to the
Plate competition. This would
be played as a knock-out phase with Semi-Finals
and Final. The teams finishing 5th to 6th in
each group would be eliminated at this stage.
Game
2 of Group A brought together Team PL Blue Boys
of Poland and Athletico Charhad Vets from England
in what proved to be a tight and tactical affair.
Both sides began cautiously, feeling their way
into the contest and showing solid defensive
organisation. The first half ended goalless,
with chances at a premium as neither side could
find a breakthrough. After the restart, the
game began to open up as fatigue and ambition
crept in. The English side started to assert
more control, pressing higher and asking questions
of the Polish defence. Their persistence was
eventually rewarded when Kourosh Eslami found
the net, slotting home what would prove to be
the decisive goal. It was a well-taken finish
that capped off a strong individual performance
and gave Athletico Charhad Vets the edge they
had been looking for.
The
Blue Boys tried to respond and pushed forward
in the closing stages, but they couldn't quite
carve out the clear chance they needed. Despite
their best efforts, they were left to reflect
on a narrow defeat in a match that could easily
have gone either way. Athletico Charhad Vets,
meanwhile, took three valuable points and a
clean sheet — an ideal way to start their Barcelona
campaign and build momentum for the challenges
ahead.

Game
3 saw a special moment in the tournament as Old
Vipers from Phoenix, Arizona made their long-awaited
eurofootballfives.com debut. Huge respect goes
to the Americans, who became only the second team
from the USA to feature in one of our events —
and the first ever to compete in the Super Veterans
category. Their enthusiasm and positive spirit
were clear from the first whistle, and they immediately
added an exciting international (and intercontinental)
flavour to proceedings.
On
the pitch, the Old Vipers settled quickly and
showed good organisation, making life difficult
for their English opponents, The Warriors. The
first half was evenly matched, with both sides
creating half-chances but unable to convert. The
game was competitive but played in excellent spirit
— a testament to the friendly yet determined atmosphere
that defines this tournament. With the score level
at 0-0 at half-time, it was finely poised heading
into the second period.
After
the break, The Warriors began to find their rhythm
and press forward with greater intent. Their persistence
paid off when captain Russ Weeks stepped up to
score what proved to be the decisive goal, guiding
his team to a hard-earned 1-0 victory. It was
a captain's performance from Weeks, leading by
example and ensuring his side collected three
vital points.
The
Old Vipers could take plenty of positives despite
the narrow defeat. They showed resilience, teamwork,
and flashes of quality that suggested more was
to come from them.
