Group A entered its decisive round with three teams locked together on nine points, and everything still to play for. The opening fixture of Round 5 pitted Argon'ze A of France against Cream of the South of England — second versus third on goal difference. The permutations were simple: a draw would be enough for the French to book their place in the Cup competition, while the English side realistically needed all three points to keep their hopes alive. The tension was evident from the first whistle, with both sides aware of the stakes. Despite a few half-chances at either end, the defences held firm, and the first half ended goalless.

The second half followed a similar pattern — tight, tactical, and fiercely competitive. Argon'ze A continued to enjoy the lion's share of possession but were struggling to break down a determined English rearguard. Cream of the South, sensing that one clear chance could be enough, began to grow in belief as the clock ticked down. Their moment came through Matthew Vokes, who produced a composed finish to give his team a priceless lead. The goal sparked celebrations on the Cream of the South bench and suddenly left the French needing to chase the game. Argon'ze A pressed hard in the closing minutes, but the English side stood resolute, defending with organisation and heart to protect their slender advantage.

When the referee blew for full-time, Cream of the South had secured a monumental 1-0 victory. They had qualified for the Cup for the first time in their eurofootballfives.com history and they may even win the group if other results went their way. It was a performance built on discipline, patience, and belief, and they were rightly jubilant at the final whistle. For Argon'ze A, it was a huge setback that would likely see them drop out of the Cup places.

The penultimate fixture of Group A brought together two English sides with the pressure off (relatively speaking). Easter Island FC, needed only to avoid a five-goal defeat to reach the Cup, and Just A Boy FC, already assured of fourth place and a Plate semi-final spot regardless of the result. Easter Island FC could afford to get complacent though – that didn't seem to be a worry. Easter Island FC wasted no time in stamping their authority on the game. They were sharp, composed, and purposeful, immediately quelling any notion of an upset. By half-time, they were firmly in control thanks to goals from Tom Farrar and Ryan Smith, giving them a comfortable 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Easter Island continued to play with confidence and freedom, and when Tom Farrar struck again to make it 3-0, the result looked beyond doubt. Farrar's double took his tally to an impressive 8 for the day and underlined his importance to this Easter Island side. He was also leading the top scorer charts. To their credit, Just A Boy FC refused to roll over despite knowing their fate was already sealed. They were unbeaten in 3 matches and would want to extend that to 4 going into the knockout phase. They rallied impressively in the closing stages, with Charlie Maier pulling one back before Ben Charles-Williams continued his fine scoring form with his third of the day to make it 3-2. The late surge injected some excitement into the closing moments, but Easter Island held firm to see out the win.

When the final whistle blew, Easter Island FC could reflect on a job well done — a hard-earned 3-2 victory that saw them finish top of Group A on goal difference. Just A Boy FC, meanwhile, could take pride in a spirited performance that ended their group campaign on a positive note in terms of the late rally. For Easter Island FC, though, attention now turned to the Cup semi-finals — and the chance to turn their group success into silverware.

The final game of Group A saw Team PL Blue Boys of Poland take on Berkshirelona FC from England, with both sides knowing this would be their last outing of the tournament. Although qualification was out of reach, there was still pride and fifth place to play for — that spot currently belonging to the Polish side. The match began brightly, and it was Alex Bunu who continued his touch in front of goal for the Blue Boys, firing them into a 1-0 lead in the first half. It was Bunu's second of the day. The Polish team looked lively and composed, building attacks well and showing the same flashes of quality that had seen them compete admirably throughout the group. They went into half-time ahead and looking on course to finish their campaign on a high.

However, Berkshirelona FC had other ideas. The English team came out in the second half rejuvenated and determined. Teddy Devlin found the equaliser to bring the game level, and from that point onwards Berkshirelona looked the stronger of the two sides. Their talisman Huw Williams, who had been one of the standout forwards in the group, took control of the match with two well-taken goals to turn the scoreline around to 3-1. His brace not only sealed the win but also moved him to five goals for the tournament, an excellent return that placed him among the leading scorers overall.

At the final whistle, Berkshirelona FC could finally celebrate a richly deserved victory — their first of the day and one that lifted them to fifth place in the final standings. They finished on four points from six games, a tally that perhaps didn't fully reflect the effort and competitiveness they showed throughout the day. Team PL Blue Boys, meanwhile, played their part in an entertaining contest and showed moments of real ability that will make them a team to watch in future events. We thank both sides for their excellent spirit and contribution to the tournament and look forward to welcoming them back for another shot at glory at the Barcelona Fives 2026 or maybe one of our other locations.
