The
penultimate fixture of Group A brought together
two English sides with the pressure off (relatively
speaking). Easter Island FC, needed only to avoid
a five-goal defeat to reach the Cup, and Just
A Boy FC, already assured of fourth place and
a Plate semi-final spot regardless of the result.
Easter Island FC could afford to get complacent
though – that didn't seem to be a worry. Easter
Island FC wasted no time in stamping their authority
on the game. They were sharp, composed, and purposeful,
immediately quelling any notion of an upset. By
half-time, they were firmly in control thanks
to goals from Tom Farrar and Ryan Smith, giving
them a comfortable 2-0 lead.
In
the second half, Easter Island continued to play
with confidence and freedom, and when Tom Farrar
struck again to make it 3-0, the result looked
beyond doubt. Farrar's double took his tally to
an impressive 8 for the day and underlined his
importance to this Easter Island side. He was
also leading the top scorer charts. To their credit,
Just A Boy FC refused to roll over despite knowing
their fate was already sealed. They were unbeaten
in 3 matches and would want to extend that to
4 going into the knockout phase. They rallied
impressively in the closing stages, with Charlie
Maier pulling one back before Ben Charles-Williams
continued his fine scoring form with his third
of the day to make it 3-2. The late surge injected
some excitement into the closing moments, but
Easter Island held firm to see out the win.
When
the final whistle blew, Easter Island FC could
reflect on a job well done — a hard-earned 3-2
victory that saw them finish top of Group A on
goal difference. Just A Boy FC, meanwhile, could
take pride in a spirited performance that ended
their group campaign on a positive note in terms
of the late rally. For Easter Island FC, though,
attention now turned to the Cup semi-finals —
and the chance to turn their group success into
silverware.
