We were down to our final 4 teams in the Plate competition. The first Semi-Final would see Fylde FC Old Boys versus Dolce & Lallana. This promised to be a high quality encounter with Dolce & Lallana reaching the Cup Semi-Finals at our 2022 Amsterdam Sixes and Fylde FC Old Boys reaching the same stage at the 2017 Krakow Trophy.

Fylde FC Old Boys were bidding to reach a second Plate Final. Whilst their B team were reaching the Cup Semis in Krakow, their A team progressed all the way to the Plate Final where they met Deddington Sea Eagles and drew 2-2 before losing 5-4 on penalties. They had the opportunity to collect winners medals today but had 2 more hurdles to conquer first.

If they were to conquer the Dolce & Lallana hurdle they would have to do it from behind as Dolce & Lallana surged into a 2-0 lead. Both goals came from Thomas Forster to add to his brace in the previous round. He now led the tournament scorinh charts on 8 goals. There was then a superb volleyed third goal from Joe Tillett to make it 3-0. Fylde FC OB were flagging and it was no surprise as, due to an injury, they'd played 7 games so far without a sub for rotation. They did produce one last burst of energy to reduce the arrears to 3-1 with Liam Errington scoring his fourth of the day.

Dolce & Lallana went on to cap their win with a second goal from Joe Tillett. 4-1 the final score and they had a final to prepare for.

Whilst Dolce & Lallana were in the process of reaching the Plate Final on Pitch 1. Simultaneously, Bugiels Athletic and Deportivo Dooradoyle were making their bid to reach the Plate Final against each other on Pitch 2. Whilst the former were on debut, Deportivo Doordoyle (under their various names & guises) were making an 11 th Semi-Final appearance in our events. Their record read:

2011 Amsterdam Fives Plate: Deportivo Dooradoyle won 3-1 v CEPL (Hol)

2013 Barcelona Fives Trophy: Deportivo Dooradoyle won 1-0 v Team Also Ran (Ire)

2013 Barcelona Fives Plate: Depo Allstars won 2-0 v Shahs of Sunset (Eng)

2014 Berlin Fives Plate: Deportivo Dooradoyle won 4-1 v All of Ronan's Men (Ire)

2015 Barcelona Fives Plate: Depo Legends lost 1-0 to Hardly Athletic (Eng)

2015 Barcelona Fives Cup: Alabama Hotpockets drew 1-1 Elcombe Old Boys (Eng). Won 3-2 pens.

2018 Gdansk Tournament Plate: Deportivo Dooradoyle lost 5-2 v Freshers FC (Eng).

2018 Gdansk Tournament Trophy: Hotpockets won 9-1 v Audley London (Eng).

2019 Budapest Fives Plate: Deportivo Dooradoyle lost 2-1 v New Wave Funk (Eng)

2022 Mallorca Fives Cup: Alabama Hotpockets lost 5-0 to Ecuador 100% (Ecu)

They had won 6 of their previous 10 but perhaps more relevant to this game was they'd lost 3 of their last 4. At Plate level they were bidding to reach their fourth final but their first since 2014. They won the Plate at the 2013 Barcelona Fives.

Bugiels Athletic were currently riding the crest of a wave. They'd only taken 1 point from their first 4 games but had now found their feet and put together a record of 3 successive wins as they'd despatched Semen Padang (2-1), RAF2 (2-0) and Tikki Masala (2-1). A fourth win in a row would see them guarantee medals from their Lisbon tour.

It was a close game as we'd expected with Dooradoyle taking Semen Padang to penalties in the previous round but they'd not be able to rely on their penalty shoot-out record in this game. The game was won by a solitary goal. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man was Stef Antoci. He'd been the spearhead of their attach today and now bagged his fifth and most important goal of the day.

Bugiels Athletic had won it 1-0 and we had to say farewell to Deportivo Dooradoyle.
