With 7 teams in each group, 1 team would sit out each round. In Round 1 it was Deportivo Dooradoyle (Ire) but they would kick us off in the second round of fixtures having had a chance to evaluate their opposition from Round 1. They were up against RAF3 (Por).

In their first game, RAF3 had enjoyed a narrow 1-0 victory against their sister-squad RAF1. They would no doubt be looking to make it 2 wins from 2 and go to the summit of Group A.

If we look back at the eurofootballfives.com history books we would see that these two teams met in the group stage of the 2015 Algarve Open. RAF3 were known as Futeboladas back then and defeated Depo Legends 1-0 courtesy of an Andre Franco goal.

8 years on RAF had strengthened over the years and whilst there was no Andre Franco there was a Hugo Martins, Miguel Vicente and Hugo Dias to score the goals for the Portuguese. Final score, 3-0. It was a tough opening game for the Irish but they had plenty of time to get their campaign off and running.

In the next game we had Fylde FC Old Boys who were looking to build on their first game victory. They were up against Tikki Masala who were looking to do exactly the same having completed a win over Sutton on Tour in the opening game of the group.

Fylde FC Old Boys took two teams to the 2018 Amsterdam Fives. The A team won 3 and lost 2 on their way to a third placed finish in Group C. They qualified for the Cup but ran into eventual winners Melee FC and lost 4-1. The B team had a tougher time in Group A where they lost 5 out of 5 and were eliminated. Amongst these results they won 1 and lost 1 against Dutch opposition. The A team defeated La Morte o I Gladioli (4-1) whilst the B team lost 3-1 to We Pay People.

Their fortunes here followed those of the A team in Amsterdam as they secured a second successive victory. Liam Errington's goal was his second in as many games. Fylde FC Old Boys had scored 3 goals without reply, had 2 clean sheets and 6 points from a possible 6. It was a magnificent start for them.

The final game of Round 2 was RAF1 against Bugiels Rovers. Both teams were looking to bounce back from opening game defeats.

12 months ago, RAF1 were brilliant in the group phase of the Lisbon Tournament. Their A team was perfect in Group A as they defeated AFC Blue Boys (Pol) 1-0, Los Swallacticos (NI) 3-0, Indoor Gent (Bel) 2-0 and Southgate FMU (Eng) 2-0 to win the group without conceding a goal. They set up a Cup Quarter-Final with The Basemen and drew 2-2 before losing on penalties which was considered something of a shock at the time.

It took a special goal to break the deadlock against Bugiels Rovers as Daniel Costa struck a ferocious free kick to make it 1-0. They doubled their advantage through Tiago Sousa and then made it 3-0 through Micael Nascimento.

The win put RAF1 into third position in the table.
