Misfits FC (Eng)

The second final of the day (after the Wooden Spoon) would see Johnsbridge FC versus Misfits FC. With seven games of football already under their belt the two teams would need to summon one last burst of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners and not runners-up medals in the presentation.

Misfits FC were arguably the team to look out for in this Plate Final as they had caught the eye in the knock-out phase scoring 15 goals in 2 games. They also had 4 wins out of 7 overall in today's tournament. Johnsbridge FC had showed great tenacity in their knock-out games with a tight 1-0 win and a penalty shoot-out victory. If they could keep this game tight and thwart that attacking prowess of Misfits FC we could have a great final on our hands.

There was history between these two teams as they met at the end of Group B. On that occasion it was Misfits FC who edged it 2-1 – a repeat would do them just fine.

With the game underway it was Johnsbridge FC who took a very early lead (you guessed it – credited to Kirpal Sadheura) but Misfits FC quickly equalized at 1-1 through Lee Bridges. The game had barely started and we'd already had two goals. The rest of the first half was really end to end but there was no addition to the score until late on when Lee Bridges put Misfits FC ahead with a near post strike.

The second half kicked off with Misfits FC 2-1 up and looking for the kill. They started in the ascendency and forced a couple of good early saves from Kirpal Sadheura. Another good chance was fired over the bar before the pressure early in the second half eventually told and Misfits FC extended their lead to 3-1. It was Lee Bridges again who completed a hat-trick and took his tally to the day to 12.

Bridges was making a late bid for the top goalscorer award and took his tally to 13 when he made it 4-1 and the Plate looked in the bag for Misfits FC. Johnsbridge FC reduced the deficit to 4-2 but it was too late for a comeback and we finished at 4-2.

We'd like to thank Johnsbridge FC for attending and offer our commiserations for the Final. It had ultimately proved one game too far this time and maybe they could go one step further next time.

For today though, we present you the 2016 Krakow Trophy Plate Winners – Misfits FC!
