We began Round 5 with the game that probably had the most riding on it – DHL Prague versus 9 Nana Budds. It was the teams in 4th and 3rd position respectively battling it out head to head for a place in the Cup. If either team could win the game then they would finish in 2nd place or as one of the best 3rd placed teams and make the Cup. The loser would go into the Plate. Should the game finish in a draw then DHL Prague would almost certainly be in the Plate and 9 Nana Budds would have to wait for other results to see if they had done enough.

DHL Prague had started the morning off well with 2 wins but 2 defeats had seen them drift down the table. Now was the time they needed to turn their form around. They took the lead through Jeremie Touret's second of the tournament and lead 1-0 at half-time.

DHL Prague had lead 1-0 at the break in their last game and ended up losing whilst 9 Nana Budds had been 2-1 down before rescuing a point in their last game. Therefore, DHL Prague will have been relieved to open up a 2-0 goal cushion in the second half through the reliable source of Rupert Baltrock.

2-0 became 3-0 (Baltrock again) and this game was secure for DHL Prague. The win meant they would finish no worse than third and they had accrued enough points to qualify for the Cup.

It was a disappointing way for 9 Nana Budds to finish the group and they would progress to the Plate competition.

On Pitch C next was Spider Mans & Eagle versus Odmienowie FC. Spider Mans & Eagle had already qualified for the Cup and with their superior goal difference had already effectively sealed the Group C title. A draw would make sure and a win would keep their 100% record going.

Facing the 100% record of Spider Mans & Eagle was a team with their own 100% record but a losing one. You would therefore think the result of this game should be a formality….but you'd be wrong.

No you wouldn't – you'd be totally correct. Spider Mans & Eagle put their opponents to the sword. At half-time it was reasonably respectable at 3-1 but after the turnaround it was a goal-fest. Odmienowie FC were a broken team as they slipped to a 10-1 defeat.

As Spider Mans & Eagle saw their goal difference swell to a resplendent 23 for and 3 against, Odmienowie FC saw their goal difference crash to 3 goals for and 23 against – a mirror image. The Spider Mans & Eagle's goals were shared around with Nick McIntosh (2), Liam Stevens (5), Justin Shelley, Richard Eggleston and Paul Williams all cashing in.

Spider Mans & Eagle were surely one of the teams to watch in the knock-out phase. Odmienowie FC would have one more game to play in the Wooden Spoon playoff.

That left us with Nowa Huta Team versus Fleet Street Elite A. What was at stake as we reached the conclusion of Group C?

For Nowa Huta Team they needed to win the game to finish 2 nd and clinch Cup qualification. A 1-0 win would see them with an identical record to DHL Prague (but finish above them on head-to-head) and any other win would see them do it on goal difference or goals scored. A draw would see Nowa Huta Team finish on 8 points level with 9 Nana Budds but finish 3rd ahead of 9 Nana Budds on goal difference. That would be enough to qualify for the Cup as 8 points and a goal difference of +3 would edge out Tea Time in Group A (8 points and a goal difference of +2). A defeat would see Nowa Huta Team play in the Plate (and Tea Time qualify for the Cup).

It was much simpler for Fleet Street Elite A who effectively had a free hit at this one – they would finish in 5 th position whatever happened here. However, a morale boosting win would certainly be good going into the Plate and especially create some momentum after their 4-0 win last time out.

The match was going the Polish team's way early on and they hit the front in the first half when Karol Rzepecki scored his sixth goal of the tournament. It was to get better for Nowa Huta Team when Daniel Kozien made it 2-0.

We kicked off the second half with Nowa Huta Team leading 2-0 and we would end it with them having wrapped up a 3-0 win thanks to a Grzegorz Stochman strike. Nowa Huta Team had earned their place in the Cup. Fleet Street Elite A would go forward to the Plate for the knock-out competition.
