Cudny Jozef and Tinniedad & Tobacco kicked off Round 4. It was the heavyweight tie of Group B with both teams boasting a 100% record with 3 wins out of 3. Tinniedad & Tobacco lead the table courtesy of a superior goal difference of +8 compared to +3. It meant a draw would probably favour them but we were sure both teams would be gunning for victory.

A win for either team here would mathematically seal their Cup qualification and put them in pole position for the Group B title. It was Cudny Jozef who struck first through Ian Corkill and it was they who lead 1-0 at the break. For the second time this morning Tinniedad & Tobacco would need to come from behind to preserve their proud unbeaten status.

Could Tinniedad & Tobacco do it a second time? This was arguably a harder proposition against tougher opposition and it was a task they were fully up to. They moved up through the gears and ran out 3-2 winners. Their marksmen were Oliver Jackson, Michael Wilkes and Will Boulton.

Tinniedad & Tobacco had shown this morning that they can win big (4-1, 5-1) and also win the tough battles (3-2 x2) – the stuff of champions.

Next up was Football Bassano MMIII versus Misfits FC. In Group B there was an emerging top 3 and bottom 3 – Football Bassano MMIII was in the former group and they had to win to ensure that status. If they could claim victory they would move joint 2nd with Cudny Jozef.

On the opposite side of the coin, Misfits FC could move level with Football Bassano MMIII if they were to win. It would mean they still had a chance of qualifying for the Cup with a win here and also in their last group game.

This match would go a long way to deciding the two teams' destinies in the tournament. It was the Italians who struck first and it was captain Enrico Zigliotto who stepped up to the task and fired his team ahead. They were chasing the teams above them down.

The second half kicked off with the Italians ahead 1-0. There was a goal each after the break – Enrico Golin for Football Bassano MMIII and David Kinealy for Misfits FC. Football Bassano MMIII lead 2-1 going into the final stages and ultimately saw out the victory that saw them go 2nd.

Maverick FC and Johnsbridge FC came into the game both looking for their first points of the tournament. The winners of this game would almost certainly qualify for the Plate tournament with the losers in danger of going into the Wooden Spoon competition.

Both teams had had their moments this morning without being able to sustain performance over a full match or get over the line when in a good position – there is no shame in that. This was proving to be the “Group of Death”.

This match went the way of Johnsbridge FC who scored twice in each half to secure a fine 4-0 win. The goals were all credited to goalkeeper Kirpal Sadheura. In the same way that the Thracians all claimed to be Spartacus and everyone claimed to be Brian at the end of the life of Brian (“I'm Brian and so is my wife”), all Johnsbridge FC goalscorers claimed to be the divine Kirpal.

The result saw Johnsbridge FC rise to 4th. Maverick FC remained in 6th.
