We were almost at the conclusion of Group B. Round 5 began with CIS Committee versus FC Broxelona B. The former were already assured of a place in the Cup and being crowned Group B winners so had no pressure on them at all. FC Broxelona B in contrast had much to play for.

To qualify for the Cup, FC Broxelona B had to win and hope that Athletic Pasty failed to win their final game. A draw would be enough if Athletic Pasty lost and Fejlodes won by less than 3 goals. Anything else would mean a place in the Plate.

CIS Committee were hardly the opponents FC Broxelona B would have wanted for such a crucial fixture and so it proved as the Belarussian team established a 3-1 lead by half-time. The CIS number 5 chipped in with 2 goals before Maxim Livotchkin scored his second of the day. Scott Morgan scored a goal that kept FC Broxelona B in with an outside chance – it was only the 4th goal CIS Committee had conceded in 14 group games in the Budapest Fives.

If FC Broxelona B could score 2 (or more) in the second half it would be quite some achievement but, alas for them, they saw the CIS Committee lead increase to 4-1. Valeri Ivashka scored his 5th goal of the day to seal the win.

The result meant CIS Committee would progress to the Cup with a 100% record. It also meant FC Broxelona B would be joining their A team in the Plate competition.

LMH FC entered Round 5 knowing that a win combined with Fejlodes failing to win would see them jump into the Plate qualification places. Budapest Celtic Hoops could also reach the Plate with a win but they needed Fejlodes to lose and to overturn goal difference in the process. Budapest Celtic Hoops were currently -3 and Fejlodes were -1 so it was distinctly possible.

Things looked good early on for Budapest Celtic Hoops but not so great for LMH FC when Jonny Bennett put Budapest Celtic Hoops ahead. Due to “goals scored” they really needed another or for Fejlodes to lose by 2 (or more) to make the Plate. Their immediate task though was to ensure they won the game and worry about goal difference later.

Victory became less likely when Simon Lewis equalized for LMH FC. The 1-1 draw suited neither team as it would ensure both teams would be eliminated. Well, LMH FC could still go through but it would require Fejlodes to lose by 7 in their final game. Could either team find a winner?

The short answer to that was no. Time ran out and both teams would have to settle for a point. The result confirmed the end of the day for LMH FC and Budapest Celtic Hoops. Thank you for participating in the 2016 Budapest Fives and we look forward to seeing you on tour in the future.

Into Game 15 of Group B which was being played on Pitch C whilst the previous two games were playing out on Pitches A and B. This was potentially the most intriguing game of the final round. Athletic Pasty could secure a place in the Cup with a win or a draw would be enough if FC Broxelona B failed to beat CIS Committee. Should they lose and Fejlodes win then Fejlodes would go through at Athletic Pasty's expense.

Fejlodes were looking behind as well as upwards in the table. Should they lose and LMH FC or Budapest Celtic Hoops have won then they may have been eliminated. It showed how close this group was that Fejlodes could qualify for the Cup or be eliminated over the course of the next game.

With the game underway it was Athletic Pasty who hit the front. At half-time they lead by the odd goal in three at 2-1. Alex Aubrey with their first and Joe Jackson with their second – keeping up his goal per game record. Chris Andtukouis scored the goal for Fejlodes that kept the game tight.

In the second half Fejlodes pulled level when Nikita Petenko made it 2-2. Athletic Pasty were still in the Cup qualification places as things stood but that all changed when Zsolt Kormendy made it 3-2. The pendulum had swung and Athletic Pasty now needed to score to qualify for the Cup. Instead Fejlodes made it 4-2 as Michael Gaal's fourth goal of the tournament ensured that Fejlodes would be joining CIS Committee in the Cup draw. Athletic Pasty would have to settle for a place in the Plate competition.
