We began Round 4 with Budapest Celtic Greens versus Two Balls One Touch. If you looked at the league table and saw Budapest Celtic Greens joint top with a 100% record and Two Balls One Touch looking to get off the mark you would put this on your accumulator as a home banker. It wasn't so straight forward.

Two Balls One Touch had started slowly with two defeats but had performed well last time out and it was arguably only the fact they had a man sent off that prevented getting them their first points on the board. They continued their improved performance in this game by holding the joint league leaders to a goal-less first half.

A win for Budapest Celtic Greens would virtually guarantee them a place in the Cup competition but for long spells, despite being on the front foot, it didn't look like they would get the goal they needed. Two Balls One Touch battled hard throughout and were looking good for a point. We entered the final minute of the game with the scores still level at 0-0 but then disaster struck.

Two Balls One Touch conceded a penalty in the dying embers of the game and up stepped Nate Hajunder to take it. He had scored twice today and his third goal of the tournament would surely earn victory. He made no mistake from the spot and Budapest Celtic Greens claimed all 3 points.

Close but no cigar for Two Balls One Touch.

The above result meant that we essentially had a two horse race for 4th position and the final qualification spot for the Plate. Vilag Valogatott were currently in pole position occupying 4th spot with 3 points. They were due to meet Wandsworth Athletic who could draw level with Vilag Valogatott should the English team win this fixture. A defeat for Wandsworth Athletic would confirm they would not qualify for the knock-out phase. A draw, whilst not perfect, would give them a glimmer of hope but they would be relying on a win in the final round and other results going their way.

The early signs did not augur well for Wandsworth Athletic as they fell behind to a goal from Ricardo Tesolin. 1-0 became 2-0 for Vilag Valogatott when Tesolin added his second of the game – his first goals of the tournament. The half-time whistle went and things were looking ominous for Wandsworth Athletic.

There was renewed hope after the break when Andy Michel reduced the deficit to 2-1 and they were on the front foot looking for an equaliser (and then possibly a winner) to keep them alive in the tournament. In the last minute they almost snaffled a leveller as Andy Michel found himself in a good shooting position only to see Tiago Hipolito make the save not once but twice as Michel crashed in the rebound. Time ran out on Wandsworth Athletic and the game finished 2-1. Another narrow loss by the odd goal.

Vilag Valogatott had secured a place in the Plate competition this afternoon.

The only thing left to settle in Round 4 was the not-so-small matter of Meglepetes versus FC Broxelona A. At the start of Round 5 these teams sat in 1st position and 3rd position respectively. Meglepetes were in need of a victory to join Budapest Celtic Greens at the top and also ensure Cup qualification. If FC Broxelona A were able to take all 3 points then they would draw level with their opponents going into the final round of fixtures.

Meglepetes had been extremely efficient all morning in compiling their 100% record with 11 goals for and just the 1 conceded. They added to their “for” tally in the first half as Zsombor Kafer struck for the Hungarian team.

It was 1-0 at half-time and FC Broxelona A needed to secure at least a draw to keep their hopes alive in qualifying for the Cup although given the goal difference that would probably not be enough even if Meglepetes were to lose their final game. FC Broxelona A needed goals and quickly but it was to be Meglepetes who grabbed the game's second goal when Marton Patik doubled the lead for the Hungarian team.

Meglepetes' Viktor Madarasz had already kept two clean sheets in three games and he would go on to make it three in four games. Final score, 2-0.
