Going into the final round of games, we had AFC Shooters versus Cheesecake FC. Both teams were looking to finalise their place in the Plate competition. Cheesecake FC just needed to avoid defeat but a win would see them guarantee fourth place in the table. AFC Shooters could climb to fourth with a win of their own. However, realistically they just needed to better the result of Bure Park Old Boys and/or draw/win to climb above Mitre FC Vets.

There were still so many possibilities at this stage that the teams just needed to secure the best possible result and then worry about other games later. Cheesecake FC were saving their best until last in Group B. Jamie Yardley opened the scoring before Pete Czerniawski made it 2-0. AFC Shooters pulled a goal back but Cheesecake quickly re-established their dominance. Mark Hignett (top scorer at the 2010 Prague Masters) made it 3-1 and his team then eased away from his opponents. Pete Czerniawski notched his second of the game as did Jamie Yardley before Pete Czerniawski completed his hat-trick.

The final score of 6-1 is just what the doctor ordered for Cheesecake FC. It was the worst possible result for AFC Shooters though. Not only was it defeat but it was the magnitude of defeat. A narrow loss could potentially have seen them through on goal difference had Bure Park Old Boys lost big…which was a possibility as they were against the top team. But now, it would have to be a 6 goal defeat – not impossible but less likely than it could have been.

FC Miracle were next in action against Bure Park Old Boys. These teams have met before all the way back in 2012 at the Valencia Fives. It was in the Cup Quarter-Finals as FC Miracle won 4-2 on their way to winning the Valencia Fives title.

FC Miracle were currently top of the table and had their fate in their own hands. Win this game and they would secure not only Cup qualification but also the Group B title. A draw would open the door for FC Poloboc or Dickie Dogs to climb above them depending on who won the final fixture in the group.

The pressure was really going to be on Bure Park Old Boys but AFC Shooters heavy defeat had made their life easier to qualify for the Plate. They would progress as long as they didn't lose by 6. FC Miracle had already hit 5 goals twice in Group B so Bure Park Old Boys would need to be on their guard.

FC Miracle went on to win this game and clinch the Group B title – well done to them. Zsolt Laszlo and Gergely Nemeth goals secured a 2-0 win. Obviously Bure Park Old Boys would have wanted a positive result but this result was good enough to extend their stay in the 2023 Barcelona Veterans. AFC Shooters were out.

The final game of Group B was effectively a Cup Quarter-Final as it was a winner takes all game for the second Cup qualification place. FC Poloboc currently held a one point advantage in the league table so a draw would be good enough to clinch their place in the Cup.

For Dickie Dogs this was arguably their best group phase performance since the 2010 Valencia Fives where 3 wins and a draw saw them win Group C on that occasion. This was their chance to dine at the top table of eurofootballfives.com competition and make the Cup again. Only a win would be good enough but they fell behind to a Veaceslav Borta goal – his fourth of the tournament.

1-0 became 2-0 when Sergiu Deleu struck again for the impressive Moldovan team. Dickie Dogs were not done yet as Justin Lebbon scored his fourth goal of the day to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

There was to be no further score as FC Poloboc sealed the 2-1 win and ensured safe passage to the Cup Semi-Finals. It was a first defeat of the day for Dickie Dogs which meant they missed out on the Cup but they would go into the Plate with their tails wagging after a fine group performance.
