Round 7 would kick-off with Deportivo Lucanos Locos versus JK Silvertown. Lucanos Locos had briefly gone top after match 17 of Group A only to see AFC Blue Boys climb above them in match 18. They could reclaim top spot with a win and guarantee Cup qualification in the process (with Beijing Rockets and AFC Blue Boys due to meet in their final fixtures).

JK Silvertown had experienced a mixed bag in terms of results today – 2 draws, 2 narrow defeats and a big win. They were guaranteed a place in the Plate regardless of the result in this game so had a free hit in that sense. They could build some momentum going into the knock-out phase with victory.

The form book suggested a Lucanos Locos win as they'd put together 4 consecutive wins including a victory over the previous league leaders. However, it was JK Silvertown who went 1-0 up thanks to Chris Wright. Szymon Holona had scored in every game until their last match but his goal “drought” did not last long as he was back on target to equalize for 1-1. A draw might not be enough for Lucanos Locos (subject to the result between AFC Blue Boys and Beijing Rockets) so they would have sought a winner. It was JK Silvertown who were back in front with Dan Cook on target. Then Chris Wright delivered a killer blow to Lucanos Locos with his second to make it 3-1. It sealed a fantastic victory for the English team.

The defeat left Lucanos Locos down but not yet out – they now needed a favour to reach the Cup.

The 20th game of Group A was Atletico Funk versus TNF. If Atletico Funk hadn't picked up a win in their previous game this would have been a real nail-biter, a straight shoot-out for the final Plate qualification place. However, Atletico Funk's win over Bure Park Seniors meant there was no such drama. There was still much to play for though as Atletico Funk could still climb to fifth and secure a (theoretically) easier Plate QF tie.

For TNF this was a last hurrah. They knew this would be their last game of the tournament so would be great if they could finish on a high – it would make those post-tournament beers taste that bit sweeter. It started off well with Steven Kerr opening the scoring to make it 1-0. It was the first time they'd hit the front today rather than having to chase games even though early games had been very close.

Atletico Funk were getting into their groove though and they hit back through Alex Jones. Barney Wilde then scored his second goal in as many games as Atletico Funk completed the turnaround from a goal down to 2-1 up. 2-1 is how we finished and Atletico Funk moved onto a respectable 7 points. TNF would bow out (on the pitch at least) and it was great to see them at the post tour social.

The final fixture of Group A was AFC Blue Boys versus Beijing Rockets. We could not have scripted a more thrilling finale to the fixtures if we'd planned it. It was the teams in 1st position and 3rd position at the start of Round 7. Lucanos Locos' defeat had opened things up and Beijing Rockets had actually climbed to 2nd position without playing due to goal difference.

The winner of this game would win Group A. Due to Lucanos Locos' defeat, AFC Blue Boys were regardless of the result. Beijing Rockets could still go out if they lost by 2 goals or more on goal difference/goals scored. Both teams actually only needed a draw to go through at the expense of Lucanos Locos. There was the potential for a “Disgrace of Gijon” scandal when in the 1982 World Cup West Germany and Austria conspired for a 1-0 win to West Germany which allowed both to qualify from the group phase at the expense of Algeria. Lucanos Locos did not have to worry about this as both AFC Blue Boys and Beijing Rockets played the game to win and played with full sporting integrity.

Beijing Rockets had the most to lose if they were to taste defeat for the second game in a row but they were seemingly back to winning ways when Nick Petman grabbed his fourth goal of the tournament. Jamie Yates put the icing on the cake as his third goal of the tournament sealed a 2-0 win and the Group A title for Beijing Rockets – very well done to them. AFC Blue Boys had still done enough to reach the Cup Semi-Finals whilst Lucanos Locos would be licking their wounds and cursing that defeat to JK Silvertown.
