At the start of Round 5, we would see Foot 130 versus Uden Filter. This was a top of the table clash. Both teams had already secured Cup qualification but the Group A title was still up for grabs. This was still an important game not just for the sporting win, the honour of victory and the group win but also to get a theoretically easier Cup Semi-Final tie. It was also a chance to lay down a marker in case these two teams would meet again in the Cup Final later today.

Foot 130 had a 100% record and a two point advantage so they only needed a draw to win Group A. Uden Filter had to win the game to secure top spot . The first half proved to be a tense affair, with neither team able to find the breakthrough. The score remained deadlocked at 0-0 as both defenses held firm, denying their opponents any clear scoring opportunities.

As the second half kicked off, the intensity of the match escalated. Uden Filter knew that they needed to find a breakthrough to fulfill their aspirations of topping the group. Their persistence paid off when Daniel Damkjaer stepped up and delivered the decisive goal for Uden Filter. Damkjaer's strike found the back of the net, putting his team ahead and breathing life into their hopes of winning Group A. Foot 130, determined not to relinquish their top position, fought back relentlessly. However, Uden Filter's resolute defense held firm, repelling the opposition's attacks and denying them any equalizing goal.

Congratulations to Uden Filter who qualified for the Cup as Group A winners.

Game 14 of Group A was the fixture between El Cholo and Cheesecake FC. El Cholo currently sat in third place and could finish no higher than third. With the two teams below them (Abington Stanley and Bullets FC) due to meet in the final game of Group A, El Cholo knew they had qualified for the Plate whatever happened here. The Dutch team would clearly want to win the game and go into the knockout phase with some momentum behind them.

Cheesecake FC were looking for their first goal and points of the day. They knew this would be their last game and the post-tournament beers would taste that bit sweeter if they could conclude with a win. Sadly for them it was a familiar story though with Hassan Al Liazny and Jiaas Hadra both scoring to make it 2-0 to the Dutch side.

There was to be some joy for Cheesecake FC. Shaeef Abdoelhak was the man of the moment for the men in red as he scored to reduce the deficit to 2-1. It would ultimately prove to be a consolation goal both in the context of the match and the context of the tournament. Cheesecake FC exited the tournament with a goal and we hear their future may lie in the Veterans events as they look to open a new chapter in their eurofootballfives.com journey.

The 15th and final game of Group A would see Abington Stanley take on Bullets FC. With the other 14 games complete both teams knew exactly what they had to do. The table showed these two teams in fourth and fifth position before kick-off so this was a straight shoot-out for Plate Semi-Final qualification.

Bullets FC were in the box seat as they were in fourth position, a point ahead of their opponents. They only needed a draw to ensure their tournament would continue into the knockout phase. For Abington Stanley the equation was simple – win or bust.

The first half remained a tight affair, with both teams battling hard to break the deadlock. Despite their best efforts, neither side managed to find the back of the net, resulting in the score being 0-0 at half-time. As the second half kicked off, the intensity of the match continued to rise. Abington Stanley were aware that they needed a victory to clinch that place in the Plate so needed to push forward but it was Bullets FC who ended the stalemate. It was Corey Smith who put his team ahead and it was a huge goal in the context of the group table. It now meant Abington Stanley needed to score twice without reply.

Bullet FC's defence stood firm as they showed great resilience and commitment in making the crucial tackles and interceptions to protect their slender lead. As the final whistle blew Corey Smith's goal proved to be the match-winner and secured his team's semi-final place.

We had to say farewell to Abington Stanley but they had played well and ultimately it was small margins that cost them their place in the knock-out phase. Three 1-0 defeats that, on another day, could have gone differently.
