Humble Goats were looking to make history by becoming only the third team in eurofootballfives.com history to successfully defend a title. Since 2007, in over 140 tournaments, only Athletico Do Hollande and Ecuador 100% had achieved this. The former winning the 2010 & 2011 Algarve Opens whilst the latter had won the 2019, 2022 and 2023 Mallorca Fives.

Uden Filter were also looking to make history by becoming the first Danish winners of a eurofootballfives.com event. Danish Dynamites had been the closest until today when they reached the Cup Semi-Finals of the 2017 Barcelona Fives.

The match kicked off with a sense of anticipation as both teams displayed their determination to claim the coveted title. Uden Filter and Humble Goats engaged in a closely contested battle, creating a handful of scoring opportunities but falling short of finding the back of the net. Despite the best efforts of both sets of players, neither side could find the decisive breakthrough. The final whistle blew with the score still locked at 0-0, signaling the need for a penalty shoot-out to determine the winner.

Humble Goats would not be phased by a penalty shoot-out as they had previously been involved in 3 in our tournaments – they had won them all! This included the 2022 Amsterdam Sevens Cup Final. Emre Selvi was first up for Uden Filter but he saw his penalty saved by Jamal Aissa. The Dutch had an early advantage which Jazz Prins pressed home as he struck the ball into the top right corner. Uden Filter were back in this and Mohammad Shabban Hussein drew his team level with a powerfully struck penalty to the right hand-side. It was advantage Humble Goats as Guillermo Warson stepped forward but that advantage was lost when he saw his spot kick hit the left post and rebound to safety.

Reda Mohammad took the last regulation penalty for Uden Filter with both teams level again. Jamal Aissa proved to be the Humble Goats hero again as he made a sensational save. It meant captain Deyae El Kanfoudi had the opportunity to win the title for Humble Goats. The right footed penalty carefully placed to the striker's bottom left corner just evaded the dive of Amine Bessighir. As the ball struck the back of the net it sparked wild celebrations amongst the Humble Goats squad.

We would like to congratulate Uden Filter on a superb performance over the course of the tournament. They could be very proud of their efforts today and could not have come much closer to success. It was very fine margins that meant they would collect runners-up medals in the presentation as reward for their efforts today.

Congratulations to our champions – Humble Goats. They became the 2023 Amsterdam Sevens champions and had now won the first two Amsterdam Sevens titles becoming only the third team in 17 years of eurofootballfives.com to successfully defend a title. Their hunger for success was insatiable as in just two weeks they would be competing for the 2023 Amsterdam Sixes. What are the odds they'll have a hat-trick of titles?
