The four teams in the Wooden Spoon had found life tough in the group phase but they now had the opportunity to end the game on a high and win a quality prize – literally, a wooden spoon. The first Semi-Final would see stablemates The Warriors and The Maulers come face-to-face.

It is not often teams from the same club meet in eurofootballfives competition but, when they do, these derby matches often have a strange atmosphere – sometimes the games can lack a little intensity or sometimes the games can have a bit too much intensity with players determined not to lose to their tour-mates.

One thing was for sure that The Warriors/Maulers would have a team in the Wooden Spoon final and that bragging rights were at stake for the rest of the Mallorca tour and beyond. The Maulers came into the game on the back of slightly better form – a 2-2 draw with Ruta Uno FC (who then drew 1-1 with FC Mahou) and taking an early lead against AFC Blue Boys (100% win record) before ultimately missing out on points. A s with most derbies though the form book goes out the window and The Warriors raised their game.

In the end there would be just the one goal to decide it and the goalscorer that became a hero to half his mates and a scourge to the others was Karl Quinn. His second half goal meant The Maulers would go on to play either Legends of the Vale or Southgate Ramblers for some woodenware.

The second Semi-Final was Southgate Ramblers versus Legends of the Vale. Who could join The Maulers in the Wooden Spoon Final?

Legends of the Vale collected the Plate trophy here in Mallorca 5 years ago and were two games away from finishing the day with another prize….although maybe not the prize they would have wanted at the start of the day. They had already met Southgate Tourists earlier in the day when they had lead 1-0 before slipping to a 2-1 defeat. That may be a yardstick for this game as they were up against Southgate Ramblers.

Southgate Ramblers had found life tough in Group C but it would ultimately prove to be the Group of Death as it produced the Cup Runners-Up, Cup Semi-Finalists and Plate Winners. Their final game was a narrow 2-1 defeat so maybe results were trending in the right direction.

This Semi-Final reached half-time level at 0-0 just as Legends of the Vale's match against Southgate Tourists had done earlier in the day. The second halves of games had so far been Legends of the Vale's undoing and so it proved again. If you were looking for a man of the match look no further than Steve Young. He scored all 4 of Southgate Rambler's goals as they took the game away from their opponents in the second period. They would go on to meet The Maulers in the final game on Group D.

Legends of the Vale were out for this year. Thank you to all the lads for joining us on tour again. It was a pleasure to host you all and look out for the Super Vets which we'll be developing over the coming months.
