We began Group D with World Pinteur Mature versus Los Amblos.

World Pinteur Mature (Fra) were making their second appearance in the Veterans category of our events in addition to a number of Open Age caps. They first appeared at Veterans level at the 2019 Budapest Veterans. They enjoyed a successful group phase winning Group A with 4 wins and 1 draw in their 5 games. They scored 12 goals along the way and conceded just 2. They were the top scoring Veterans team and were arguably favourites going into the knock-out phase. They drew Budapest Celtic Legends in the Cup Semi-Finals. It was a hard fought game which ended 0-0 and goals were hard to come by in the penalty shoot-out too. It was the Hungarians who won it, 1-0.

The French team would be one of the favourites for this title but found Los Amblos a tough nut to crack in the opening period. When the teams changed ends it was Eric Lemoisson's goal that separated the two teams. As the game wore on the French eased away from their opponents with goals from Romain Ziat, Anicet Owona and Adrien Maurel.

A perfect start for the French side. Work to do for Los Amblos who we'll preview in more detail next game.

Match 2 saw Legends of the Vale meet Southgate Tourists as the two English sides kicked off their campaign.

Legends of the Vale most recently appeared at the 2019 Budapest Veterans Tournament. They got off to the perfect start with 2-1 win versus Peebles Nae Stars (Sco) and 1-1 draw versus World Pinteur Veterans (Fra) – who they are yet to play here in Mallorca. They then tasted defeat, 2-1, to Budapest Celtic Heroes before a 0-0 draw against Bure Park Old Boys. They rounded off their group campaign with another draw, 1-1, against FC Dad's Club.

They were hunting down a second successive Plate success as they met Old York Cosmos in the Semi-Finals. They drew 1-1 in normal time but Old York Cosmos denied them a second Plate Final in the penalty shootout.

Here in Mallorca, they found themselves goal-less at half-time with Southgate Tourists. They got off to the perfect start in the second half though with a goal from Steve Finnis. There was still time for Southgate to recover and that's exactly what they did. Declan O'Leary levelled things up at 1-1 and then proved to be the match winner with his second in a matter of minutes. It was a great turnaround for Southgate Tourists who took all 3 points.

The last team to get underway was Trojans as they took on World Pinteur Mature. Four of the five teams in Group D had previous eurofootballfives.com experience. The exception was Trojans who were a home team representing Spain with a multinational squad. They had a blank canvas upon which to paint their footballing artistry.

Their first game was a tricky one against World Pinteur Mature who had won 4-0 first time out. The French appeared to be on equally good form here. Adrien Maurel opened the scoring before Aurelien Ludot made it 2-0 before half-time.

The second half was equally as profitable for World Pinteur Mature with Kevin Payet extending the lead to 3-0 and Eric Lemoisson's second goal of the day completing a superb 4-0 win.

The result sent World Pinteur Mature to the top of the table.

The second round of fixtures continued with Los Amblos versus Legends of the Vale. Both teams were looking to quickly bounce back from opening game defeat and put their first points on the board.

Los Amblos were competing at their sixth eurofootballfives.com Veterans Tournament. Of the previous 5, their appearance here at the 2017 Mallorca Veterans was probably their strongest. They produced an excellent group performance with 3 wins, 1 draw and just the 1 defeat as they secured 10 points and second place in Group B. The only downside of this was that they drew a rampant FC Mahou in the Cup Semi-Finals. FC Mahou were on fire that day and defeated Crabtree Amblers (as they were known at the time) 6-0.

Los Amblos began well against World Pinteur Mature before the French took a grip on the game. They also began well here against Legends of the Vale with nothing to separate the two teams in the opening period. The teams changed ends level at 0-0.

The second half brought us goals and it was Ade Chester who broke the deadlock. 1-0 became 2-0 as James Myers doubled the advantage. Julian Wilton in goal marshalled his defence expertly to ensure there was no way back for Legends of the Vale and Los Amblos secured their first win of the day.

Game 5 of Group C was to be Southgate Tourists against Trojans.

Southgate Tourists had opened up with a win here in Mallorca – the scene of their best performance at our Veterans tournaments to date. At the 2017 Mallorca Veterans Tournament they produced a sensational string of results in the group phase: 2-1 v The Warriors, 2-1 v Crabtree Amblers, 2-0 v C'an Pastilla Vets, 3-0 Ferrioirence and 2-0 v WEEDS Colts. They won Group B with a 100% record to reach the Cup. A 2-1 win against Stilton Rovers in the Cup Semi-Finals followed to set up a final against FC Mahou. FC Mahou won it 4-1 as Southgate County Vets had to settle for runners-up medals.

They were looking for a second win to join World Pinteur Mature at the top of the table but got off to the worst possible start against Trojans. Oane Durdri Rijma and Luis Fernandez each scored to put the Spanish team 2-0 up. Southgate Tourists hit back though with a double from David Fields and it was 2-2 at half-time.

It was déjà vu at the start of the second half with Trojans scoring twice to make it 4-2 thanks to Marco Telari and James McConnellague. This time there was no route back for Southgate Tourists as Trojans kicked on.

James McConnellague and an Ian Palmer double made it 7-2 before James McConnellague completed his hat-trick. Neil Spackman did have the final say as he reduced the deficit to 8-3 but it was a sensational result for Trojans.
