The Warriors would kick us off next against Les 5 Salopards. The league table showed it was top versus bottom but we knew these two teams were quite closely matched as they met at the start of Group A at the 2022 Lisbon Veterans Tournament.

In Lisbon the game was quite tight for the opening period until two goals in two minutes around the midway stage swung the game firmly in favour of Les 5 Salopards. Yanick Jista scored both goals. Paul Janman reduced the deficit to 2-1 a couple of minutes from time but there was not enough time on the clock for them to rescue a draw. Here in Mallorca the opening stages were again tight with Andy Chrascina's second goal of the tournament for The Warriors cancelling out Gilardi's opener for Les 5 Salopards.

The French team regained their lead thanks to Gazzaoui and then made it 3-1 with Yanick Jista scoring his third goal of the tournament and his third against this opposition. As the half-time whistle blew Les 5 Salopards were looking good for all 3 points.

In the second half Gazzaoui scored his second of the game to make it 4-1 and Pecolo Tognelli scored his second of the day to round off a fine 5-1 win. Les 5 Salopards moved 3 points clear at the top and were well on course for a third Cup qualification.

It was third versus fourth as FC Tpaktop took on ACE & The Swagmen for each team's third fixture.

FC Tpaktop (CIS) were competing for the third time in our tournaments and for the first in our Veterans category. They joined us for the first time at Open Age level at the 2021 Barcelona Fives. They opened up with a 1-1 draw against eventual Plate winners FC Maroon before a narrow 2-1 defeat to eventual group winners FC Maresmex of Spain. A 1-1 draw followed against 2019 Amsterdam Fives winners Epsilon Rovers. They then finished the group off with a 3-2 win versus The Basemen who were Cup Semi-Finalists at the 2022 Lisbon Tournament. They finished in second place in the league table to qualify for the elite Cup competition. They narrowly missed out on the Cup Final, 3-2.

Last year they competed at the 2022 Amsterdam Sevens. The team got off to a sticky start with consecutive 3-0 defeats to Turn Down For Watford and Colonel Getafe. They put their first win on the board with a 1-0 victory over Murder on Zidane's Floor before a narrow defeat to eventual champions Humble Goats, 2-1. They finished off the group with a 2-1 win against JK Silvertown that secured fourth place in the table and qualification for the Plate tournament. They met a strong Milner Street team who ended their day on the pitch, 3-0.

For FC Tpaktop to reach the Cup they would most likely need to win their final two games. However, they fell behind here to a Daniel Burkwood goal (keeping up his goal per game ration). The CIS team were back level before the break though as Petr Tolmanov meant it would be 1-1 at half-time.

In the second half it was a case of cometh the hour, cometh the man. That man was Oleg Bogoslavskiy who bagged a brace to turn 1 point into 3. The win meant FC Tpaktop went level with Duktil Balear on 6 points but the Spanish did have a game in hand.

Up next was Duktil Balear playing their third game against Les 5 Salopards playing their final game. As things stood, Les 5 Salopards were three points ahead of their opponents but obviously having played a game more. Should the French win this game they would be crowned Group A champions. A draw or Spanish win would mean things going down to the final game of the group.

Les 5 Salopards could not have got off to a better start with Pecolo Tognelli and Gazzaoui opening up a 2-0 lead at half-time. Duktil Balear had won 6-0 and 5-2 in their opening games but were now really up against it. Defeat here would mean they would face a final game showdown against FC Tpaktop for Cup qualification let alone harbouring thoughts of the Group A title.

The Spanish team put in a sensational second half performance that only furthered their reputation around the tournament that they might be the team to beat for glory today. David Soler Hibernon bagged a brace to take his tally for the tournament to 5 and, in a flash, Duktil Balear were level at 2-2. The momentum was certainly with them as Javier Martinez Leon made it 3-2 before Hibernon completed his hat-trick. Daniel Suarez Rordan made it 5-2 before Victor Mato Suero scored for 6-0. David Soler Hibernon was leading the goal-scoring charts as his 4 th of the game and 8 th of the tournament made it 7-2.

Duktil Balear moved above Les 5 Salopards on goal difference. The French team would now have to sweat on the result of Duktil Balear v FC Tpaktop to see if they'd done enough to reach the Cup.

80% of Group B games were now completed with just 2 to go. We turned our attention to the teams in fourth and fifth position which was The Warriors and ACE & The Swagmen. For both these teams the Cup was out of reach but the battle was for Plate/Wooden Spoon qualification was alive and kicking. It was a winner takes all game with a draw suiting ACE & The Swagmen who had the superior goal difference.

Both teams had motivations to reach the Plate (beyond the natural sporting will to win) with one last effort. The Warriors would dearly love to emulate their Plate success from 2017 and reach a third Plate Final in the process (also Algarve 2015). For ACE & The Swagmen, they came so close to success in Lisbon last year missing out via a penalty shoot-out that they had unfinished business.

ACE & The Swagmen saved their best until last at the group phase in Lisbon with a 1-0 win over The Maulers and they were to do so again with an even better result here versus The Warriors. Daniel Burkwood certainly remembered to pack his shooting boots for this tour as he claimed a first half hat-trick that maintained his record of scoring in every game so far. It also took his personal tally to 6 and just two behind Duktil Balear's David Soler Hibernon in the scoring charts.

The second half saw Matt Proctor and Joe Humphreys taking on goalscoring duties to round off a fine victory. Final score 5-0. ACE & The Swagmen had sealed qualification to the Plate. The Warriors would play in the Wooden Spoon.

We went into Game 10 of Group B with FC TPaktop due to host Duktil Balear. Let's have a look at what was at stake for the two teams going into this encounter:

FC Tpaktop: They could finish no worse than third place with a defeat or a draw that would see them into the Plate. To qualify for the Cup they would need to win to go level with Les 5 Salopards and Duktil Balear on 9 points. They would need to win by 4 to move above Les 5 Salopards on goal difference.

Duktil Balear: They had the luxury of knowing they needed just a point or more to win Group A. Due to their goal difference (+14) they could realistically afford defeat to reach the Cup as they'd have to lose by 12 to slip below Les 5 Salopards (+3). If they avoided defeat by 8 goals they'd be Group A winners.

If you'd watched Duktil Balear's games so far it seemed that a largescale defeat was out of the question so there was no pressure on Duktil Balear on this game and they settled into their stride. They moved ahead in the early stages of the game with Victor Mato Suero on target for the fourth game in a row. David Soler Hibernon moved to 9 for the tournament as he made it 2-0. Julio Peralta Millan made it 3-0 and it was only half-time.

FC Tpaktop knew they had a mountain to climb at the start of this game but if that mountain was Mont Blanc it was now Everest they needed to scale to reach the Cup. They limited further damage to one more goal as Enrique Minojosa Garcia secured the 4-0 result.

The result dotted the I's and crossed the T's on the action in Group A as Duktil Balear were crowned champions with a 100% record. FC Tpaktop finished a very respectable third place and would progress to the Plate.
