Los Swallacticos (Nir)

Group D was really hotting up as we entered Round 4 and we had quite a tussle at the top with just 2 points separating Beercelona, Los Swallacticos and Red Light Runners. The first of those two teams were in action again on Pitch A as they took on Unbelievable Technippers. Beercelona brought a 100% winning record to the table, were the top scorers in the group with 11 goals and were yet to concede – formidable form.

Unbelievable Technippers must have been cursing their luck to be drawn in such a tough group on their first eurofootballfives.com appearance. In their last match they had secured their first point of the tournament but they had a tough ask to secure their first win in this game – stranger things have happened in eurofootballfives.com tournaments though.

There was to be no shock results though as Beercelona's charge continued. Jay Lambert was the man on this occasion to open the scoring for Beercelona. Luke Delaney continued his personal form of scoring in every game as he made it 2-0 which meant it was 12 goals without reply at the start of the tournament for his team. Beercelona would not make it to 13 though as Unbelievable Technippers pulled a goal back to make it 2-1. Stephen Mangan holding the honour of scoring their first in Europe.

That goal was notable as it was Unbelievable Technippers first goal scored of the day. It was also Beercelona's first goal conceded. Any chance of a comeback and a second point of the day for Unbelievable Technippers was snuffed out when Jay Lambert's second of the game sealed a 3-1 for Beercelona.

The next game in Group D was a big one for Athletico De Leave and Drunk Perfect. Drunk Perfect had drawn their last two games and, as we have seen before, draws can often stunt a team's progress up the table. Wins is what was needed from Drunk Perfect to shoot up the table as they currently resided down in 6th. Athletico De Leave were in even greater need of the points – a win for them would see them climb above their opponents.

Athletico De Leave were yet to score in the tournament whilst Drunk Perfect had drawn a blank in the last game so you could be forgiven for thinking this would be a low-scoring game but we were to witness four goals. Sadly for Athletico De Leave they were on the wrong end of all of them.

Drunk Perfect scored twice in their first three games but scored four in this fixture to really boost their league placing as they rose from sixth to fourth in the table. Carlos Pacheco Alfonso was the hero of the hour as he bagged a hat-trick for his team. He scored the first three goals before Alex Giorgini put the icing on the proverbial cake to make it 4-1.

Red Light Runners were up next against Shahs of Sunset. Such was the pressure at the top of the table that Red Light Runners knew that although they brought a record of 9 points from a possible 9 into Round 4 they had to keep winning to keep their Cup qualification hopes on track. They had been formidable so far with 9 goals scored and none conceded on the way.

Shahs of Sunset had experience of being at the top of table themselves as they topped their group at the 2012 Valencia Fives & 2013 Budapest Fives. They had also finished joint-top of their group at the 2013 Barcelona Fives and 2014 Bratislava Fives. Only in Lisbon last year and then today here in Barcelona again had they seen their form dip from the very top. Now would be a great time to pull out their top form but they were down to the minimum five due to injury and were up against first class opposition.

As if to underline this, it was Red Light Runners who continued on their merry way. Cory Gallagher was enjoying a sensational tournament – he had scored in every game up to and including this one as he bagged his fifth in four games. Declan Doherty was the second top goal-scorer at the 2008 Krakow Trophy (11 goals) and also the second top goalscorer here at the 2008 tournament with 9 goals. He got off the mark today as he made it 2-0 to Red Light Runners.

James O'Brien in goal for Red Light Runners was hunting down his fourth clean sheet of the day but it would not be achieved in this match. Anes Jusic became the first man to score past him today as he reduced the deficit to 2-1. Red Light Runners had enough in the tank and saw the game out to record a 2-1 victory.

That left us with the final two teams yet to play their fourth fixture – Bolivar and Los Swallacticos. Los Swallacticos had reached the Cup Final on both previous appearances but had their work cut out to make it three in a row as Beercelona and Red Light Runners were looking imperious with 100% records. Los Swallacticos were still to play both these teams so things were still very much in their own hands. However, they needed to win this one to make sure they were in striking distance of those other two teams at the top.

Bolivar were immediately below Los Swallacticos in the table at kick-off but 4 points adrift so the team from Northern Ireland looked fairly solid in third position. A win for Bolivar though would strengthen their grip on the Plate qualification places and deal a major blow to Los Swallacticos's Cup hopes.

The reason Los Swallacticos were not in a three-way tie for the lead was two dropped points in a 2-2 draw with Drunk Perfect in Round 2. It looked like another draw would do further damage to their qualification hopes. As much as they tried Los Swallacticos were unable to unlock the Bolivar defence. They remained strong defensively to avoid defeat but the game finished 0-0.

The former champions remained unbeaten but now 4 points adrift of the two teams above them with 3 games to go. Boliver slipped a place from 4th to 5th.
