It was 1st versus 2nd at the start of Round 3 with Giggs Boson versus Naranjitos.

Naranjitos' group record at the Barcelona Fives read:

2014 Barcelona Fives: P4 W1 D1 L2 F8 A5 Points – 4 (3rd)

2015 Barcelona Fives: P4 W2 D1 L1 F8 A7 Points – 7 (2nd)

So far today they had boosted their career Barcelona Fives record by another two wins. Like their Spanish counterparts, Giggs Boson also had a 100% record this morning – obviously one (or both) these teams would lose that record by the end of this game. Who could keep their run going?

It was first blood to Naranjitos as David Moya Aparicio put his side ahead. This was the first time Giggs Boson had been behind today – how could they respond? Pretty well was the answer as captain Sam Lock levelled things up at 1-1.

The man that turned the game was Javier Sanchez Flores who restored Naranjitos lead at 2-1 before putting the game safe at 3-1. All 3 points went to the team from Valencia. Giggs Boson were still well placed in the overall group standings.

This was Ealing Expendables third eurofootballfives.com tournament and their second tournament in Spain. Last time they were in Spain was at the 2014 Valencia Fives and they produced the perfect group record with 4 wins out of 4. Today was proving to be harder work – they had a great draw with the champions before a narrow defeat to the team in 2 nd place. They'd hope the fixtures would get easier.

They were up against a Leek High Boys team who had begun with a victory in the opening fixture before a 4-0 deficit last time out at the hands of the champions, Club Esportiu Llefia.

As they'd both played Club Esportiu Llefia and Ealing Expendables had the better result you may expect them to be favourites despite being lower in the table. What we saw on pitch was two well-matched teams. In the end there was just the one goal in it. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man was Kieran Wood. His strike earning all three points for his team and a share of second place in the league table.

The next game in Round 3 was Real Sosobad versus Mavericks. Both teams needed goals and points to surge up the Group A table. The “For” and “Points” columns in the table were conspicuous by the zero that occupied them. With 7 group games each there was still time for both these teams to make their mark in the tournament. A positive result would be just what the doctor ordered to kickstart their campaign.

It was Mavericks who enjoyed the best of the game and it was captain Daniel Tate that broke his team's duck as he made it 1-0. From there the goals flowed – Mark Adamson made it 2-0 before Sam Russell made it 3-0. Sam Russell scored soon after to make it 4-0 and complete a resounding victory.

It was a great win for Mavericks not just because of their first points of the day but also because they'd wiped out their negative goal difference in one fell swoop. It was now three defeats for Real Sosobad and you began to fear for them in this tournament.

To complete Round 3 we had Club Esportiu Llefia. Club Esportiu Llefia topped Group B en route to their tournament victory last year. They began their campaign with a draw and a victory 12 months ago. Today, at the end of Round 2 they were sat in 3rd position also with a draw and a victory to their name. If this was déjà vu they were due to be crowned champions again in a few hours time. Their next opponents would be Smithfields OAPs.

Smithfields OAPs came into this game with momentum having put opening game defeat behind them to secure a fine 3-0 win last time out. This looked to be another tough fixture but on the pitch they were making short work of their task.

The Irish lads opened up a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Sean Sweeny and Jesper Frisch. It was now 5 goals without reply for them but that was to change when Alfred Jimenez de Andres reduced the deficit to 2-1. Smithfields OAPs had enough in the tank to see out a 2-1 win. A fantastic win.

The defeat for Club Esportiu Llefia was their first in eurofootballfives.com competition after going through 7 games in 2015 and the first 2 games at the 2016 Barcelona Fives unbeaten. It was a prized scalp for Smithfields OAPs.
