We wish you a warm welcome to the Netherlands and the fifth edition of the Amsterdam Sixes since its debut in Amsterdam back in July 2017. This tournament also marked our 20 th tournament overall in Amsterdam when taking into account our Fives and Sevens events.

This tournament has been hugely successful and sold out every year. The roll call of winners, with the Cup Final results, reads:

2017: Toros (Hol) 1-1 TEDO3 (Hol). Toros won 4-3 on penalties.

2018: CIS Committee (Blr) 3-0 Cheesecake FC (Eng)

2019: Kavlow (Eng) 5-2 ZVC Indoor Gent (Bel)

2022: Ball Bashers (Eng) 1-0 Humble Goats (Ned)

Today we had teams representing England, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Wales. Who would be holding the coveted trophy aloft at around 18.00 this afternoon?

The first two challengers to get us underway in Group A on Pitch 4 this year would be Humble Goats (Ned) versus Santos Lagoon Squad (Eng). The home team were looking to go one step further than they did last year but they found stubborn resistance from the English team in the first half. The English team thought they had taken the lead from a throw in but the referee judged the ball to have gone in directly from the throw without a touch so the score remained 0-0 at half-time.

Humble Goats did go ahead after the break with Rafael Hernandez making it 1-0. The points were secured when Deyae El Kanfoundi scored for 2-0.

The first phase of the 2023 Amsterdam Sixes would be decided on a group basis. There was two groups with 6 teams in each group. The teams finishing 1st and 2nd in each group would progress to the Cup competition. This would be played as a knock-out phase with Semi-Finals and Final. The teams finishing 3rd and 4th in each group would progress to the Plate competition. This would be played as a knock-out phase with Semi-Finals and Final. The teams finishing 5th and 6th in each group would be eliminated at this stage.

Game 2 of Group A was Boca Seniors (Lux) versus FC Kicks (Ned). It was a tightly fought contest with little to choose between the two teams. In the end the match would be settled by a cruel deflection. Joost Ropen was through on goal with goalkeeper and defender's converging. The well struck shot clipped off the defender making it impossible for Dan Ripley to adjust in goal. The strike proved to be the only goal of the game as FC Kicks began with a 1-0 victory.

FC Dad's most recent appearance was at the 2022 Lisbon Veterans Tournament. They excelled in the group phase picking up 3 wins and 2 draws to finish top of their 6-team table with 11 points. They scored 9 goals along the way with just 3 conceded. They qualified for the Cup Semi-Finals where they met AFC Shooters 1 and drew 1-1. An epic penalty shoot-out followed with FC Dad triumphing 8-7. They met FC Mahou in the final who had 3 eurofootballfives.com titles to their name. They were on course for a fourth at 2-0 up but FC Dad finished strongly and two late goals ensured a 2-2 draw and a penalty shoot-out. This time they couldn't win on penalties and went down 3-2 but were so close to a maiden Cup victory.

It means FC Dad come into the tournament on a 7-match unbeaten European run. That looked set to continue with Callum Jones putting FC Dad 1-0 up early on. FLA, on debut, hit back though with Jac Evans and Reon Hodgson both on target to turn the game around before half-time. Will Reddie's second half equalizer earned FC Dad a point and kept that unbeaten run going.

It was a solid start for FLA in our tournaments and they looked good in their early showing.
