Athletico Do Hollande (Hol)

After 45 games of football we came down to the most important of them all. Game 46 – The Amsterdam Fives 2011 Cup Final.

We were treated to a game that was worthy of a final which was full of goals, entertainment and watched by a supportive crowd who thoroughly enjoyed it. The best thing about the final was that as the two teams took to the field it was a 50/50 guess on who would come out on top. Both teams had reached the final in emphatic style after convincing Semi-Final wins. I don't think there was anyone at the tournament complex who could deny that we had the best two teams in the finale.

Athletico Do Hollande were no strangers to eurofootballfives.com finals having been victorious in the 2010 and 2011 Algarve Open Finals. This was their first final on home turf though. Inter Women were making their eurofootballfives.com debut but had already stamped their mark on the event. Could they prevent Athletico Do Hollande from making it a hat-trick of eurofootballfives.com titles?

It certainly looked so in the early stages as they forged ahead through Daniel Powll with goal number 14 of the day. Athletico Do Hollande had been behind today and proved they were the stuff of champions as they fought back. They most famously fought back from 1-0 and 2-1 down in the Algarve Open final against Cheesecake FC to become the first team to defend a eurofootballfives.com title.

Athletico Do Hollande were at it again here in Amsterdam as Fernando Pique hit a ferocious shot into the far top corner to bring the game back to 1-1. How would Inter Women respond to being pegged back?

Pretty good is the answer as Daniel Powell restored their lead to make it 2-1. The onus was on Athletico Do Hollande to come back again. Before they knew it they were 4-1 down as Powell completed his hat-trick and David Foran also scored. Surely this was game over….and it was. It was a great performance from Inter Women who were well deserved champions. The personal honours of the day were won by Daniel Powell who was top goalscorer with an incredible return of 16 goals in 8 games.

We offer our consolations to Athletico Do Hollande and thank them for lighting up another of our tournaments with their attacking style and great sportsmanship. Such was their style that they were the first losing finalists to give their winning opposition a guard of honour during the presentation as Inter Women came forward to collect their trophies and medals – a nice touch.

Our congratulations also go to Rigford Seahawks Omega in the Plate competition. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our teams who participated in what was a great day's competition. It was a pleasure to host you all and great to share a few beers at our post-tournament drinks in the evening. We hope your head's on Sunday morning were not as heavy as ours!

We hope to see you all again at a tournament very soon.
