We began Round 3 with a top of the table clash between Luminy Wolves and DHL Prague Red. These two teams had met before – albeit some time ago – in the 2009 Barca Fives Cup Quarter-Final. Luminy Wolves won 3-0 on that occasion en route to the title.

If Luminy Wolves could repeat that result they would guarantee Cup qualification with a game to spare. A win for DHL Prague Red would see them leapfrog their opponents whereas a draw would leave both teams as favourites to qualify for the elite Cup competition.

At half-time it was close with the French team edging it 2-1 thanks to goals from captain Naim Tarbi and Nicolas Allegre. Mert Cilli's second strike of the tournament meant that DHL were in touching distance of their opponents though.

The next goal of the game proved vital and it was Allegre's second of the game to wrap up the points 3-1, open up a 5-point gap at the top of Group A with it guarantee their place in the Cup. DHL Prague Red would have work to do in their final game.

Sporting Beerguts were next in action against The El Dude Brothers. For the quality of these two teams to just have a point between them at the foot of the table suggested this may well be the group of death that each tournament seems to have.

If Sporting Beerguts could claim victory they would move second on 4 points alongside DHL Prague Red. It would be quite some comeback from opening game defeat but at half-time they found themselves level at 1-1 with Niall Hutchinson scoring his second goal of the day. For the El Dude Brothers it was Alex Borwick who opened his team's goalscoring account.

If the El Dude Brothers could claim the win they would jump into a share of third place and have every chance of qualifying for the Cup themselves (admittedly with a tough final game in prospect). They did find the back of the net again through Dave Hill but it would only earn a share of the points thanks to Gary Nugent's strike for Sporting.

It was honours even and the draw did not really help either team too much with the sides remaining in 4th and 5th position.

Stadtrandkicker remained in 3rd place and with a game in hand over their Group A opponents. That game in hand would be against the team directly above them in the table – DHL Prague Red.

For the German team it was a must not lose game. If they could win they would guarantee Cup qualification, a draw would mean they were half-way there needing a point in their final fixture whereas defeat would end their Cup hopes. For DHL Prague Red the equation was similar but this was their last group game so they had to settle their fate here and now.

It looked good for home supporters as Marc Wuttig and Toran Ergun gave Stadtrandkicker a 2-0 lead at half-time. We're not sure what happened at half-time but maybe DHL Prague Red got manager Mark Keogh's hairdryer treatment as they turned the game on its head in the second period.

David Cusin pulled one back for 2-1 before Mert Cilli equalized for 2-2. Cilli then scored his fourth of the tournament to put the Czech's ahead for the first time. Frenchman Cusin then sealed victory with his second of the game and round off a superb 4-2 comeback. DHL Prague Red would be playing Cup football this afternoon.

For Stadtrandkicker it was a psychological blow but they were still in 3rd place and whilst the Cup was now beyond them, Plate qualification was still very much in their own hands.

Luminy Wolves went into their final game of Group A already qualified for the Cup and already crowned group champions. This was not the opposition El Dude Brothers would have picked for a game where they had to pick-up points to stake their claim for Plate qualification.

Considering this was top versus bottom it showed what strength in depth Group A had as there was very little to separate the two teams and in fact the two teams could not be separated. The El Dude Brothers were involved in their second successive 2-2 draw and added to their goal tally through Alex Borwick's and Dave Hill's second goals of the tournament.

Naim Tarbi (also his second of the tournament) and Jeremy Etchegoynberry scored for Luminy Wolves to prevent El Dude Brothers racking up victory.

As a stand-alone result it was a very fine result for the English team. Let's put it in perspective…before today Luminy Wolves had played 16 group games with 14 wins, had scored 60 goals and conceded just 9. Only FC Miracle and Budapest Celtic Lions (both Hungarian teams) had ever taken points off them and both those games were draws. If you add in today's results before this game it was 17 wins in 19 games scoring 72 and conceding just 11. It was that good a result for the El Dude Brothers.

In the context of the group though, this result didn't help them too much. It put them ahead of Sporting Beerguts on goal difference but Sporting had a game in hand to claim the final Plate place.

So up next was Sporting Beerguts against Stadtrandkicker. The Germans were now guaranteed a place in the Plate with The El Dude Brothers not winning above. However, they still wanted to finish 3rd in order to secure a (theoretically) easier Quarter Final fixture and of course pride was at stake.

Sporting Beerguts fate was in their own hands. Win the game and finish third, draw and finish fourth, lose and finish fifth. The first two eventualities would see them qualify for the Plate, the latter would see them in the Wooden Spoon competition.

We reached half-time and were no nearer to knowing how the final Group D table would look as we were still locked at 0-0. The second half was where all the goals were hidden and it was a ding-dong affair. At the final reckoning it was 2-2 – the fashionable result in Group A with 3 of the last 4 games ending that way. There were goals for Steve Linden and Neil Cartledge for Sporting and Meik Schwarz and Marc Wuttig for Stadtrandkicker.

Both teams would leave the pitch relatively happy going into the Plate competition with the watching El Dude Brothers now knowing it would be them in the Wooden Spoon Semi-Finals.
