Group
C began with Patagonia versus Paralytic Athletic
U23s.
Paralytic
Athletic U23s (Eng) made a first appearance
at the 2018 Riga Tournament as the sister squad
of Paralytic Athletic. They made a decent start
with a 2-1 win over Stag Park Rangers but then
lost 3-1 to Shahs of Sunset. They finished with
two 1-1 draws against Colonel Getafe (Lat) and
World Pinteur (Fra). Although just two points
off first place they finished fourth in a very
tight group. They progressed to the Plate where
they went out (5-3) to Spider Mans Ressies in
the Quarter-Finals.
Patagonia
were making their debut in our tournaments but
they took to eurofootballfives.com competition
like a duck to water. Two goals from Rodrigo
Barros and Milo Huelpa helped them to a debut
victory.
Group
C continued with PVDC Eindhoven versus FK Aliance.
PVDC
Eindhoven (Eng) played for the first time in our
tournaments at the 2018 Mallorca Tournament. They
got off to a winning start (3-0 v Yac Club Reserves)
before suffering a 1-0 loss to Ecuador 100 (who
won at the 2019 Mallorca Fives). They picked up
two more wins (2-0 v Purnell Youth 2, 2-0 v 3
Lions) before finishing the group with a 0-0 draw
over Fiorentina Turner. This ensured they would
finish second in the table and qualify for the
Cup competition. In the knock-out phase they were
eliminated (1-0) by Spain's Urbansport.
They
made a good start to life at the 2019 Barcelona
Fives as they opened up the scoring against FK
Aliance. Matty Armstrong, an addition to the squad
from 12 months ago, was the man with the goal
in the first half. In the second half FK Aliance
got back into the game with an equalizer from
Arvis Gerhards. The game finished 1-1 as the teams
took a point each.
Last
but not least in Group B, it was Black Sheep (Spa)
versus RAF Fylingdales (Eng).
RAF
Fylingdales were making their fifth eurofootballfives.com
appearance here in Barcelona. They entered this
tournament on the back of their best performance
to date which was at the 2018 Gdansk Tournament.
In the group phase they had a slow start losing
their first game 2-0 to Lilchicago of Lithuania.
They then embarked on a run of 4 successive wins
to claim second place in the Group B table. They
qualified for the Cup for the first time and would
meet The A Team (Fra) in the Quarter-Finals. It
was the French who progressed with a narrow 2-1
victory.
It
looked like it may be another slow start here
in Barcelona (the morning after the night before?)
as it was Black Sheep who took the lead. Jack
Stratford gave Black Sheep the lead in the opening
period. The local team kicked off the second half
1-0 up but ended it 3-0 to the good. Dani Conejo
Rodriguez added a second before Jack Stratford
completed the scoring.
