The
next game on Campo B was VNV versus Bracknell
Vets. Following the defeat of Footballab in the
above game there was now an opportunity for each
of these teams to move from their current Trophy
qualification places into fourth and a place in
the Plate.
VNV
were just 1 point behind Footballab so a win would
secure that place in the Plate. A draw would see
them end with identical goal difference to Footballab
(-4) but Footballab had scored more. So, a draw
of 3-3 (or less) would see Footballab reach the
Plate. A draw of 5-5 (or more) would see VNV achieve
that. A 4-4 draw would see identical goal difference
of 5-9 so it would come down to head to head.
VNV won the game between the two 1-0 so 4-4 would
be enough for them.
The
equation was much easier for Bracknell Vets, they
simply had to win to climb above both of those
teams. We reached half-time and we were no clearer
of which of these three teams would be taking
fourth and the second Plate qualification spot.
It just needed a goal either way for VNV or Bracknell
Vets to claim it. If it stayed 0-0 then Footballab
were going into the Plate.
In
the second half we got the vital breakthrough.
Rob Vreugdenhil scored the goal that saw off the
challenge of Bracknell Vets in this game and of
Footballab in the context of the group. Final
score, 1-0.
