The climax of the day's events had arrived - The 2018 Amsterdam Sixes Cup Final.

Whilst those teams who had battled hard yet already departed could enjoy a nice cool beer and enjoy the spectacle of the tournament climax (if they hadn't sloped off to the bar to watch England versus Sweden), there was still work to do for our two finalists. What a Cup Final we had in prospect!

We had two teams who had both excelled throughout the day and I don't think anyone could argue that they didn't deserve to be in the Final. This was arguably the most experienced Cup Final we've ever had in our tournaments. They had appeared in 18 tournaments between them, 8 Cup Finals and a combined 5 titles.

If you look at those statistics you would have to make CIS Committee favourites but in a one-off Cup Final anything could happen. We only have to look back at our Riga Tournament this year when Riga United defeated Deddington Sea Badgers 9-3 in the group phase but lost to them in the Cup Final.

Obviously when you get to a Cup Final you are highly motivated to win it. However, CIS Committee had an extra bit of motivation. They were currently joint top of our all-time list of winners with 4 titles. They could make history with a fifth today.

In the Cup Final the team from Belarus continued their fine form. It's not often a team walks off the pitch having lost a Cup Final and stated that they had been taught a footballing lesson. Cheesecake FC did today and they were very magnanimous in defeat as they praised their conquerors.

CIS Committee won it 3-0 with goals from Aleh Harbenka, Aliaksandr Viazhevich and Pavel Tumash. It was the consummate performance.

We would like to congratulate Cheesecake FC on a superb performance over the course of the tournament and commiserations on missing out in the Cup Final. They would collect runners-up medals in the presentation. There was talk of them joining us at our new Alicante event next June so we hope to see them there.

The individual honour of the day went to Cheesecake FC. Kevin Raphael was the top scorer with 10 goals. It was the second such title for him having also won this award at the 2014 Mallorca Tournament.

Congratulations to our champions – CIS Committee - they became our second winners of a Sixes event. It was a great win and they had certainly earned it. A look at the statistics showed they had the clean sweep in terms of goals scored, clean sheets, goal difference etc. They were now also statistically our most successful team ever with 5 tournament wins. A huge well done to them.
