We began Round 5 with the group perfectly set-up – we began with 5th versus 6th, would then have 1st versus 2nd and would finish with 3rd versus 4th as we approached the climax of the group phase.

So, first up it was FC Fylde Old Boys B versus SC Sylt. Both teams were without a win today and needed to put that right to avoid slipping out of the tournament. Only the best placed 6 team across all 3 groups would qualify for the Plate so the loser of this game would be out of the tournament (as Scotty Doesn't Know already had 1 point in 6 th position in Group C). If it was a draw then FC Fylde Old Boys B would finish above SC Sylt on goal difference and leave SC Sylt glancing at the final Group C results with some trepidation.

At half-time, it was SC Sylt who held the advantage 2-0. The German team were our current Plate holders so they desperately needed the result to have hopes of retaining that crown. They saved their best group performance until last as they ran out 5-2 winners in the end. Sebastian Kraus (x2), Rene Reizammer (x2) and Christian Heinl goals secured them the win. FC Fylde Old Boys B were sadly eliminated.

Next up was We Pay People versus Wandsworth Athletic. What was at stake for the 2 teams?

We Pay People: They were already guaranteed Cup qualification. A win would see them win Group A with a 100% record. A draw would be enough to win the group. Defeat would see them finish second with a potentially more difficult Cup Quarter-Final.

Wandsworth Athletic: Defeat could see them slip to third if JK Silvertown also won and with a swing in goal difference. However, a look at the other groups meant 10 points would be enough to see Wandsworth Athletic qualify for the Cup regardless. A win would see them crowned Group A champions.

Since our move to this current venue, only Hamid Hammers (Sco) had secured a 100% record in a 6-team group. We Pay People were half-way there to emulating that at half-time. Michel Raven and Tom Reurts goals gave them a 2-1 lead.

Andy Michel bagged goal #8 of the day for Wandsworth Athletic in that opening period. His team hit back in the second half to secure a very good draw that meant they would finish the group phase unbeaten. Owen Smith-Palmer and Andy Michel both scored in that second period as Nafeh also scored for We Pay People. Final score, 3-3.

To conclude Group A then was the not-so-small matter of Some Like It Scott against JK Silvertown. This was the battle for third position which, in turn, was the battle for the final place in the Cup competition.

This could be really interesting as here in Group A we had teams on 7 points and 6 points playing for third. In Group C, at the same time, we had teams on 7 points and 6 points playing for third. Group B had finished with third place there going to KPN Digital. Therefore, with the best two third placed teams qualifying for the Cup a haul of 8 points or more was the target.

JK Silvertown currently sat on 7 points so ‘only' needed a draw. Some Like It Scott simply had to win. The latter were the team on form as they had picked up 6 points from the last 6 available. JK Silvertown had picked up 1 point from the last 6 available – admittedly against the top two teams in the table.

At half-time, JK Silvertown were that little bit closer to Cup qualification. It was 1-1 which suited them. Adem Hassan's goal could prove vital to them. Harry Ashman's goal for Some Like It Scott meant they were just 1 strike away from the Cup.

Could either team go on and win this? Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man was Chris Wright. With 9 goals under his belt already he moved on to double figures. His second half goal for JK Silvertown won the game and sent his team into the Cup for the second year in a row.

It was a sensational result for JK Silvertown but we offer our commiserations to Some Like It Scott who pushed them all the way. They would have to settle for a place in the Plate in the knock-out phase.
