We had 8 teams whittled down to 4 as we reached the Semi-Final stage. We would be guaranteed a Hungary versus Overseas Cup Final. The first Cup Semi-Final saw two Hungarian teams, the second saw two travelling teams vying for a place in the 2015 Budapest Fives Cup Final.

Those two Hungarian teams were Csabagyongye and Meglepetes. Csabagyongye were yet to reach a Cup Final in our tournaments but they had come very close – in 2011 they were seconds away from defeating Olympic Phil Babb (who went on to win their 4 th successive tournament) before a last gasp equalizer and 2-0 loss on penalties. Last year it was a 1-0 defeat to Argentina. They have of course won the 2012 Budapest Fives Plate and 2013 Plate Champion of Champions.

Meglepetes had played in two previous Sem-Finals (both in the Plate) and were unbeaten in regulation time with a 3-0 win over BBFC2 in 2013 and a 3-3 draw versus Budapest Celtic Panthers in 2014 before a 3-2 loss on penalties.

These two teams met in Group C this morning and on that occasion Csabagyongye came out on top, 1-0. It was the same scoreline that saw Csabagyongye enter half-time in the ascendency here. Soling firing in off both posts to put Csabagyongye on course for victory.

In the second half Meglepetes fought back and scored only the third goal in almost six games against their opponents. Bence Szalontai's sixth goal of the day making it 1-1. That was how if finished – we would need penalties to decide it.

Neither team would have happy memories of shoot-outs with the 2011 loss for Csabagyongye and the 2014 loss for Meglepetes. One of these teams would set that record straight, the other would suffer double the pain.

It would be Meglepetes to start the penalty shoot-out;

0-0 Zoltan Marczell fired at the top left, goalkeeper moves to his right and pushes the ball clear. Advantage Csabagyongye.

1-0 Great penalty as Gergo Koczka shapes to put it in the top right, goalkeeper moves and he curls his foot around the ball to put it in the top left corner.

1-1 Meglepetes are level as Kristof Lennart fires the ball hard and true down the middle.

1-1 Save! Engin plays it down the middle and the Meglepetes goalkeeper saves it with his knees diving to his right. It's neck and neck again.

1-1 What a save! It stays level but it's advantage Csabagyongye as Bence Szalontai fires it to the right corner but the goalkeeper dives forward and left to push it away.

2-1 David Kemeny slots it to the right as the goalkeeper dives the other way and Csabagyongye have won it!

It was a contest worthy of a Cup Final but sadly for Meglepetes we had to say farewell to them thinking of what might have been.

The second Cup Semi-Final had a lot to live up to after the first Semi-Final. It would be contested by The Spider Mans & Eagle and CIS Committee. With no disrespect to The Spider Mans & Eagle, it was CIS Committee who entered the field as favourites – 5 successive wins, 18 goals scored and none conceded tends to do that.

The fact these two teams had met before with CIS Committee emerging victorious 3-0 (in the group stages of the 2014 Bratislava Fives) also added weight to the argument that CIS were favourites. If you want to throw into the pot that CIS Committee are defending champions and also won in Bratislava Fives you can see the size of the task that faced The Spider Mans & Eagle.

Could we be bigging up CIS Committee for a fall? The Spider Mans & Eagle had sensationally defeated Fritzl Palace 5-0 in the Quarter-Finals and a repeat of that performance would give them a good chance. What The Spider Mans & Eagle didn't want though was to fall behind to the opening goal and that's exactly what happened. Anton Galay seized the initiative for the Belarus team.

1-0 became 2-0 as Ihar Shcherbich bagged his fourth of the day and the current holders were in control. When Aliaksandr Lisouski made it 3-0 the writing was on the wall for the English team. The second half was much better for The Spider Man & Eagle who stemmed the tide defensively and even reduced the deficit to 3-1 when Nick Whateley became the first man to score past Alexander Gerasimovich today.

It ended 3-1. The Spider Mans & Eagle had reached the Cup QF on debut, the Cup SF here – could they go on to a Cup Final and win a tournament in their 3 rd appearance? It has happened before when Grant Thornton of France did just that. Today though, it was CIS Committee going through to the Final.
