Group C began with the The Spider Mans & Eagle versus Fleet Street Elite FC – both teams were making their 2nd eurofootballfives.com appearance.

Spider Mans & Eagle made their debut at the 2014 Bratislava Fives and they made an impressive debut. They lost their first game, 3-0, to eventual champions CIS Committee but bounced back in style. 2-0 and 3-1 victories followed before a 2-2 draw consolidated their progress. They finished off the group with a 3-0 win to take 2 nd place and qualify for the Cup. In the Quarter-Finals they battled out a 2-2 draw with Shahs of Sunset before a penalty shoot-out saw them exit the competition.

They continued their Bratislava form into this tournament and made a much brighter start than in Slovakia. Instead of a 3-0 defeat they began today with a 3-0 win. Richard Eggleston scored either side of half-time before Ryan Stevens crowned the perfect start – 3 goals, 3 points.

It was a tough start for Fleet Street Elite FC (more on them later).

Next up on Pitch C was Budapest Celtic Pumas and Meglepetes in an all-Hungarian contest. If you've been reading the commentary on Group A and Group B you will know that Budapest Celtic Pumas have quite some record in our tournaments. The Pumas are often the third team of the Budapest Celtic group but that does not mean they should be under-estimated – they've reached a Cup Semi-Final before.

Meglepetes had previously played Budapest Celtic teams on four previous occasions with the following results:

2013: Lost 2-1 to Lions in Group B

2013: Won 2-1 against Tigers in the Plate Quarter-Finals

2014: Lost 1-0 to Lions in Group D

2014: Drew 3-3 with Panthers in the Plate Semi-Finals but lost 3-2 on penalties.

So, with two defeats in the group phase would it be third time lucky for Meglepetes? It was looking good at half-time as Kristof Lennart and Richard Balogh both scored to give them a 2-0 lead.

They retained the lead until full-time with further goals from Zoltan Marczell and Mate Palmai. Engin Bali and Abdullah got on the scoresheet for the Pumas. Final score, 4-2.

Due to some delays from Csabagyongye arriving at the stadium there was a little re-jig of fixtures that meant the next game was Fleet Street Elite FC versus Meglepetes.

Fleet Street Elite FC were making their second eurofootballfives.com appearance when they took to the field in Budapest. They made their debut two seasons ago at the 2013 Lisbon Tournament. They played as “Lads of Lisboa” and made a fine start with a 5-2 victory over Breckland FC. Defeat followed to Hungary's Csabagyongye (who are also drawn in Group C) before victory over FC Dad (1-0) and 2 defeats to the 2 Portuguese sides in their group. They finished 4th in their group and qualified for the Plate Semi-Finals before going out to FC Dynamoes.

In their opening game they'd tasted defeat so playing against a confident Meglepetes team with a win to their name already would be a tough game to bounce back in. Meglepetes had scored two in each half in their first game and they repeated that achievement here in their second. Captain Peter Hegedus got them off the mark before Bence Szalontai opened his account.

After the break Richard Balogh and Kristof Lennart both scored their second in as many games as the Hungarian side completed a fine 4-0 victory and it was they who sat top of the early Group C table.

The next game in Group C was Csabagyongye versus The Spider Mans & Eagle. After delays in arrival the Hungarian team had most of their squad now in attendance although some were still getting changed as the rest of their colleagues were taking to the field. It was a chaotic start and not ideal preparation against a team who already had a win under their belts.

What followed was a tense and tetchy game that wasn't helped with a refereeing error that helped Csabagyongye on their way. In our tournaments, after the ball exits play on the side touchlines we re-start with a traditional throw-in (as per 11-a-side). Now, it is fairly common in Europe for re-starts on the side to start with a kick-in. This is what Csabagyongye did and the referee allowed play to go on. From this move Csabagyongye scored – the goal stood. It was one of two first half goals from David Kemeny and Peter Dovak that put Csabagyongye 2-0 up at the break.

After the break it was pretty even stuff but The Spider Mans & Eagle got back into the game with two great finishes – the first from Ryan Stevens and the second from Richard Eggleston. It earned The Spider Mans & Eagle a 2-2 draw.

The game that took us to the halfway stage of Group C was Fleet Street Elite versus Budapest Celtic Pumas. The two teams were looking for their first points of the day and at least one team would have a point on the board at the end of this game.

Would one team take all 3 points or would they share the points? Fleet Street Elite FC struck the first blow and made the first move towards claiming the maximum 3 points. It was AJ Foster who scored Fleet Street Elite's first goal of the tournament.

The next goal of the game was always going to be crucial. If Fleet Street Elite FC could claim it they would haves some daylight and be well on their way to victory. If Budapest Celtic Pumas could claim it then they it was game on again and all 3 outcomes were possible again.

Captain Darren Clarke stepped up the plate and fired home the crucial goal that would guarantee his side would be leaving the field with all 3 points and their first victory of the day.
