We were at the 2012 Berlin Fives Cup Semi-Finals stage and from the 24 teams who started the day we were down to the final 4.

First up were debutants East Compton Eagles versus Rigford Seahawks. East Compton Eagles had swept into the Semi-Finals with a 3-0 win over Hasanheide Camels and had notched up 5 wins and a draw out of their 6-games so far. The 2009 Krakow Trophy Winners, Rigford Seahawks, came into the game with 4 wins and 2 draws plus a penalty shoot-out win. It would be a brave man to select a winner?

The teams records were clear to see above but they would have to do their talking on the pitch and the talking was coming from Rigford Seahawks more clearly in the first period as the Seahawks established a 2-0 lead. In these games a two-goal lead is a pretty commanding one and it was going to take a great response for East Compton Eagles to come back from here.

If 2-0 was difficult then 3-0 was almost impossible and that's what happened in the second half as the Seahawks assumed full control of this Semi-Final. They were really finding form at just the right time. No-one would want to play them going into the Final. Their goalscorers in this one where Tom Hallam (2) and Chris Howard.

It was the end of the road for East Compton Eagles today but it was an impressive debut performance and you could quite easily see a tournament victory for them in the future.

So, who would take their place in the Final from the second Semi-Final? The two teams set to do battle were Bafta Boys against Shrewsbury Townsend. Both teams were in unchartered territory and if we were asked to pick a winner we would sit on the fence and say it was 50/50 – not due to diplomacy just purely because we couldn't really separate the teams. Both teams were unbeaten, both had scored plenty of goals and so it would all come down to who could produce the best display in the next two halves of football, who could handle the pressure and who could emerge as a hero for their two team.

What emerged on the pitch for Bafta Boys was pretty much a recreation of their Quarter-Final against Northern Monkeys when they were 2-1 down at half-time, finished 2-2, there was 2 goals for Joe Bardwell and they would go into a penalty shoot-out. Richard Deeming was the man with the goals for Shrewsbury Townsend.

Shrewsbury Townsend would kick off the penalties and assuredly made it 1-0 before Bafta Boys squared it up at 1-1. Shrewsbury Townsend missed to give away the advantage but Bafta Boys could not take that advantage and we were still level at 1-1. Shrewsbury Townsend then made it 2-1 before Bafta Boys failed to convert and, unlike their Quarter-Final versus the Northern Monkeys, they were out on penalties.

If there was consolation for Bafta Boys it came in the shape of personal glory for Joe Bardwell who ended the day as tournament top goalscorer. He wore the number 14 on his back and maybe that was prophetic as his tournament tally was 14 goals for the day! I am sure Joe would be the first to mention it was a great performance today from all the Bafta Boys.
