Group
A continued with a huge clash at the top of the
table as Portugal's RAF faced Ireland's Deportivo
Dooradoyle in a meeting between the group's top
two sides. RAF arrived with a perfect record after
winning both of their opening games, giving them
a two-point advantage at the summit. Deportivo
Dooradoyle, meanwhile, were unbeaten after taking
four points from their first two matches and knew
a victory here would completely transform the
complexion of the group. With Portugal versus
Ireland on the schedule, the stage was set for
a fascinating encounter.
It
was the Irish side who exploded out of the blocks
with a superb opening spell. Ciarán McMahon
opened the scoring to hand Deportivo Dooradoyle
an early advantage, and they continued to pour
forward with confidence. Patrick O'Brien maintained
his fine tournament form by doubling the lead
with his second goal of the competition before
Keith Lynch capped a brilliant first-half display
by making it 3-0. RAF were stunned but not beaten,
and Pedro Neves gave the Portuguese side a lifeline
before the break with his second goal of the tournament
to reduce the deficit to 3-1 at half-time.
RAF
carried that momentum into the second period and
quickly made the contest even tighter. Rafael
Jeronimo opened his personal account for the tournament
with a crucial strike that brought the score back
to 3-2 and completely changed the atmosphere of
the match. Suddenly all three results looked possible
as RAF pushed hard for an equaliser while Deportivo
Dooradoyle attempted to steady themselves after
surrendering control. The game remained finely
balanced deep into the closing stages until Sean
O'Donnell struck to restore the Irish side's two-goal
cushion and finally put the result beyond doubt.
At
the final whistle, Deportivo Dooradoyle celebrated
a sensational 4-2 victory that saw them leapfrog
RAF into top spot in Group A. With seven points
from their opening three games, the Irish side
had placed themselves firmly in pole position
for Cup qualification and sent a strong message
to the rest of the tournament. RAF, despite suffering
their first defeat of the day, remained well placed
in the standings and would still fancy their chances
of progressing. |

Next
up in Group A was a crucial encounter between
the teams currently occupying fourth and fifth
positions in the table as Old Salesians faced
Sutton on Tour. Old Salesians held a one-point
advantage over their English rivals coming into
the contest, but both teams understood the importance
of the fixture. Realistically, victory was essential
if either side wanted to keep genuine hopes
alive of reaching the Cup competition. A draw
might leave Old Salesians with a mathematical
chance, but for both teams it felt very much
like a must-win game.
Given
the stakes, the match was played with intensity
and commitment from the very beginning. Both
teams showed urgency in possession but also
caution, knowing that one mistake could prove
costly. Chances were limited in the opening
half as the two defensive units stood firm and
refused to give their opponents any clear openings.
At the break, the scores remained level at 0-0
with everything still to play for in the second
half.
The
pattern continued after the restart with both
sides battling hard for the breakthrough goal
that could transform their tournament prospects.
Sutton on Tour pushed forward in spells while
Old Salesians looked to recover from the disappointment
of conceding eight goals in their previous outing
against Inter Campos. Credit must go to both
back lines and particularly to the two goalkeepers,
who produced composed and disciplined performances
under pressure. Anton Povstyan for Sutton on
Tour and Dan Redmond for Old Salesians both
played key roles in preserving their clean sheets.
At
full-time, the game ended goalless with the
points shared in a result that did little to
improve either side's hopes of Cup qualification.
While both teams could take pride in a much-improved
defensive display, especially Old Salesians
after their previous match, the draw left them
facing an uphill task heading into the final
round of fixtures. Plate qualification now appeared
the more realistic target for both sides as
Group A moved towards its conclusion.

Game
8 of Group A saw Inter Campos take on leaders
Deportivo Dooradoyle in a hugely significant contest
at the top end of the standings. After losing
their opening fixture against RAF, the Spanish
debutants had responded in spectacular fashion
with an emphatic 8-0 victory over Old Salesians,
putting themselves firmly back into the qualification
picture. Deportivo Dooradoyle, meanwhile, were
unbeaten with seven points from a possible nine
and had taken over at the summit after defeating
RAF in their previous match. With this being the
Irish side's final group fixture, the stakes were
clear — victory would secure the Group A title,
while anything less would leave the door wide
open for their rivals.
The
game exploded into life almost immediately, continuing
the recent trend of goals flowing freely in Group
A (previous match excepted). Inter Campos looked
full of confidence after their previous performance
and quickly established control going forward.
Although Kevin Shine scored his third goal of
the tournament for Deportivo Dooradoyle, the Spanish
side simply outgunned their opponents in a breathless
first half. Ismael Macundo Ballester scored his
second goal of the day, Samuel Pinoj Guisado put
Inter Campos ahead, and another strike before
the break gave the Spanish side a commanding 3-1
advantage at half-time.
If
the first half had been entertaining, the second
half was even more devastating from an Inter Campos
perspective. Samuel Pinoj Guisado continued his
outstanding display by scoring twice more to complete
a superb hat-trick performance as the Spanish
side tore through the Irish defence. Inter Campos
were now in extraordinary goalscoring form, having
scored eight in their previous game and six more
here. Ivan Cañas Vilalobos added another
to cap a brilliant attacking performance. Deportivo
Dooradoyle did manage another goal through Mike
Kelleher, who scored for the second time in the
tournament, but it proved little more than a consolation
as Inter Campos powered to an impressive 6-2 victory.
Despite
the defeat, Deportivo Dooradoyle remained top
of Group A at the end of the match, although their
advantage had been cut to just a single point.
With RAF and now Inter Campos breathing firmly
down their necks, the race for Cup qualification
was set up perfectly heading into the final round
of fixtures. For Inter Campos, meanwhile, back-to-back
high-scoring victories had transformed their campaign
completely and established them as one of the
most dangerous attacking sides in the tournament.

The
penultimate match of Group A saw Portugal's RAF
face England's Old Salesians in a contest with
significant implications at both ends of the table.
RAF came into the game sitting third, level on
six points with Inter Campos and only one point
behind leaders Deportivo Dooradoyle. Victory here
would guarantee Cup qualification, while even
a draw would likely leave them well placed to
progress as one of the best third-placed teams.
Old Salesians, meanwhile, occupied fourth place
on two points and were realistically destined
for the Plate competition regardless of the outcome,
although a win could still improve their final
position and potentially hand them a more favourable
knockout draw.
The
game was a relatively relaxed affair despite the
importance of the result. RAF were more casual
without the intensity of their usual attacking
intent, but Old Salesians looked organised and
disciplined at the back. The breakthrough eventually
arrived through Finlay Turner, whose first goal
of the tournament gave the English side a precious
lead. With chances otherwise limited, Turner's
strike separated the teams at the interval as
Old Salesians went into half-time 1-0 ahead.
The
second half, however, belonged almost entirely
to Old Salesians and particularly to George Walker.
Having already shown glimpses of his quality earlier
in the day, Walker now exploded into life with
a devastating hat-trick display. His goals transformed
a narrow advantage into a commanding 4-0 lead
as RAF struggled to recover from the setback.
Old Salesians continued to play with confidence
and energy throughout the second period, while
RAF failed to score for the first time in the
tournament and could find no route back into the
game.
At
full-time, Old Salesians celebrated an emphatic
4-0 victory that provided a huge boost heading
into the Plate competition. Despite finishing
fourth in the group, they had actually lost only
one match all day and would take considerable
confidence from this performance. For RAF, meanwhile,
defeat left qualification hanging in the balance
as they waited nervously to discover whether their
earlier results would be enough to send them into
the Cup or the Plate competition. |

The
final match of Group A saw Sutton on Tour take
on the in-form Inter Campos in a game that would
decide who finished top of the table. Sutton on
Tour came into the fixture having just picked
up their first point of the day in a goalless
draw against Old Salesians. They already knew
they would finish fifth regardless of the outcome,
with Old Salesians now out of reach in fourth
place, but this was still an important opportunity
to build confidence heading into the knockout
phase. Inter Campos, meanwhile, had become one
of the tournament's hottest teams after recovering
from an opening defeat to RAF with stunning 8-0
and 6-2 victories, the latter coming against previous
leaders Deportivo Dooradoyle. Victory here would
guarantee them the Group A title, while even a
draw would likely be enough due to their superior
goal difference.
Despite
the apparent gulf in form, Sutton on Tour produced
an excellent opening half and made life difficult
for their Spanish opponents. The game burst into
life with five goals in a thrilling first period.
Inter Campos edged ahead 3-2 at the interval,
but Sutton on Tour fully played their part in
the spectacle. Ismael Nfenif Angel continued his
fine goalscoring form for Inter Campos, while
Oriel Tejada Ladamate struck twice to give the
Spanish side the advantage. Sutton on Tour responded
impressively through Finn Bosier, who continued
an excellent debut European campaign by scoring
twice in the first half to take his tally to three
goals and become his side's leading scorer.
The
second half, however, followed the expected script
as Inter Campos gradually asserted their authority
and attacking quality. Ivan Cañas Vilaladas
extended the lead to 4-2 before Samuel Pinoj Guisado
added another as the Spanish side's confidence
continued to grow. Borja Carrión Lliteras
then got in on the act with his first goal of
the competition to make it 6-2. There was still
time for Oriel Tejada Ladamate to complete his
hat-trick, remarkably his second treble of the
tournament, as Inter Campos capped another devastating
attacking performance with a seventh goal.
At
the final whistle, Inter Campos celebrated a comprehensive
7-2 victory that secured them the Group A title
in emphatic fashion. After losing their opening
match, the Spanish debutants had responded with
three consecutive victories and an incredible
21 goals scored across those games. They would
now head into the knockout stages as one of the
teams to watch in Mallorca. Sutton on Tour, meanwhile,
showed plenty of spirit throughout the contest
despite the defeat and would now turn their attention
towards the Plate competition looking to finish
the tournament strongly. |
