We began Round 4 with a top 3 and a bottom 3 developing in Group A. Bluewater Training versus Jackson's Five would kick us off at the start of Round 4. It was a chance to bridge the gap to the teams above. Bar Maruru's win in the previous match meant Cup qualification was now beyond these two teams but a place in the Plate was still very much up for grabs.

Bluewater Training suffered two 1-0 defeats before a 3-0 loss to Inter Hoddesdon. The danger of losing even when you play well (as in the two narrow 1-0 defeats) is that confidence can get shot, performances tail off and defeats get bigger. It becomes a vicious circle – could Bluewater Training arrest their slide here?

Jackson's Five also needed the win and if they could take victory they would put themselves in pole position for Plate qualification especially as their rivals would come face-to-face in Round 5. The English team had failed to score in their last two games but were back amongst the goals here. Massi Ghiani scored in Round 1 and now added to his tally. Adry Alonso scored 6 times at the 2017 Lisbon Tournament and he was now off the mark in Mallorca as he doubled the lead for Jackson's Five.

2-0 at half-time became 2-0 at full-time as Alex Demetriou kept a clean sheet with the aid of his defence. A first win of the day for Jackson's Five.

It was now time for the biggest game so far in Group A with the two teams at the top meeting in direct competition. It was Bar Maruru versus Ben. Both teams boasted a 100% record with the maximum 9 points. For one, or both, of these teams that record would end here.

It promised to be a great encounter with the teams scoring 13 goals between them. On the other hand, both teams were yet to concede a goal. So, would we get a free-scoring game or two teams shutting the other out. A win for either team would guarantee Cup qualification. A draw would push them both closer but with work to do. Should it be a draw then Bar Maruru would retain first place on goal difference.

Bar Maruru had that larger goal difference primarily due to their thumping 5-0 win over Urban Sport last time out. The goals continued to flow for the Spanish side into this fixture as Vicens Matas and Toni Torres both found the back of the net. Ben's hitherto perfect defensive record was over. Bar Maruru's was still in tact as they lead 2-0 at half-time.

Ben got back into it in the second period as they reduced the deficit to 2-1 and also ending Bar Maruru's perfect defensive record. Bar Maruru had enough left in the tank to get over the line. The game finished 2-1 and Bar Maruru lead the way in Group A.

The only thing left to settle in Round 4 was Urban Sport versus Inter Hoddesdon. The Spanish were in a downward spiral whereas the English were riding the crest of a wave. Since their opening 1-1 draw Urban Sport had slipped to 2-0 and 5-0 defeats (admittedly to the top two). Inter Hoddesdon had just record successive 3-0 wins. We knew where we were putting our money for this one!

If Urban Sport could turn their fortunes around and eek out a win they would go level with fourth place Jackson's Five and have hopes of Plate qualification. Inter Hoddesdon were aiming higher and targeting the Cup. A win for them and they would be joint second on points with Ben. It started well in the first half with Toby Cleaver scoring for the third game in a row.

The second half kicked off with Inter Hoddesdon still 1-0 up but with goal difference potentially decisive for Cup qualification they turned the screw. Giuseppe Milazzo opened his personal account for 2-0 before Toby Cleaver made it 6 in 3 games. The only thing that prevented a third successive 3-0 win for Inter Hoddesdon was a hat-trick goal for Toby Cleaver to make it 4-0.

Inter Hoddesdon moved level with Ben on 9 points but leapfrogged above them in the table into second place courtesy of their +8 goal difference (Ben had +4).
