* Riises Pieces (Eng) won 5-4 on penalties.

We were down to our final 4 teams in the Plate competition. The first Semi-Final would see OS Sadinos versus Riises Pieces. This promised to be a high quality encounter – OS Sadinas had so far won 4 and lost 2 today but having seen low scoring games (1-0, 0-1, 0-1, 1-0) they had recently exploded into life with two big wins (5-1, 5-0). Momentum was very much on their side at the moment.

At the other end, Riises Pieces were on a run of 3 wins out of 4 with the only defeat in that run coming against CDAL (Por) who were the top ranked team in the tournament at the end of the group phase (most goals, fewest conceded, 100% record). These were two teams at the top of their game and the winner would deservedly take their place in the Plate Final.

It was the Portuguese who held a narrow lead at the half-way point of this game with Pedro Charrano scoring for the third game in a row to take his tally to the day to 4 goals. Riises Pieces were still very much in this game and they struck back in the second period with a goal from Andy Mowll to make it 1-1. It was a vital goal that would ultimately earn his team a penalty shoot-out.

Penalty shootouts had been good for the English team so far with success in the 2019 Mallorca Fives SF versus Red Cow Belgrade and, just moments ago, for their sister team in the Cup QF versus RAF1. Could they make it 3 shootout wins out of 3 in our tournaments?

With 6 penalties taken it was 3-3 and we entered sudden death. Riises Pieces were certainly ruthless in front of goal with Ant Lenihan, Liam O'Doherty, Robbie Heywood, Sam Thomas and Andy Mowll all successful from the spot. The decisive moment came when OS Sadinos' fifth penalty struck the post and went wide. In such situation we like to give the goalkeeper credit for forcing the penalty taker into the mistake and credit to Liam O'Doherty.

The second Semi-Final was Blue Collar Revolution versus Sirkumo FC. Who could join Riises Pieces in the Plate Final?

Historically the two teams had an identical “personal best” in our tournaments having both reached a Cup Semi-Final before. The two teams' records today read:

Blue Collar Revolution: Won 4, Lost 2, Goals For 16, Goals Against 3.

Sirkumo FC: Won 3, Drawn 1, Lost, Goals For 12, Goals Against 8.

Even though they missed out on the Cup, Blue Collar Revolution had the second best goal difference in the tournament after the group phase and this made them arguably the favourites to win the Plate. Having put two defeats behind them they looked back to their best in the Quarter-Finals. This represented a very tough game for Sirkumo FC and if they could overcome the French challenge they would certainly merit their place in the Plate Final.

Maxime Hatton was the hero in the Quarter-Finals for Blue Collar Revolution with both the goals and he opened the scoring in this game. It took his tally to the tournament to 6. Hicham Manaa was their top goalscorer on the day with 8 before this game. He was back amongst the goals as he increased the lead to 2-0 and 3-0. He had now hit double figures for the day and was a leading candidate for top goalscorer.

Sirkumo FC were unable to find a way through the Blue Collar Revolution defence as goalkeeper Freddy Gaullier lived up to his nickname of “clean sheet”.

Sirkumo FC were out for this year. Thank you to all the lads for joining us on tour again. It was a pleasure to host you all.
