At
the start of Round 5, we had a slight change
in format. At the start of the day we had 8
teams qualifying for the Cup, 4 for the Plate.
With the loss of the Hungarian Journalists NT
(see Group B) and Peebles needing to merge their
All Stars and Nae Stars this would have left
us with a top heavy 8 teams for the Cup, 2 for
the Plate. So, to balance things out we changed
it so that the top two in each group would qualify
for the Cup. Third and fourth would qualify
for the Plate and then we'd have a Wooden Spoon
game for the two fifth placed teams. This seemed
to make more sense.
The
first two teams in action in the final round
of fixtures in Group A were Budapest Celtic
Heroes and Bure Park Old Boys. The two teams
were level in joint second on 7 points in second
and third place. This was now effectively a
straight shoot-out for Cup qualification with
the winner taking all. Should the game end in
a draw then Bure Park Old Boys would qualify
as they had the superior goal difference.
The
English team got off to a cracking start with
Oscar Calusi scoring his second goal of the
tournament and Matthew Johnson scoring his fourth.
Half-time, 2-0.
Ian
Mansley made it 4 goals in 5 games when he increased
the lead to 3-0 and Bure Park Old Boys were
heading to the Cup. Igor Kristovic pulled one
back for Budapest Celtic Heroes but it was merely
a consolation. Full-time, 3-1.
