MacBengals were one of two teams from Bridge House who made their eurofootballfives.com debut at the 2010 Valencia Fives. They had two teams in Spain who both made it to the Cup quarter-finals before bowing out to high quality opposition. They began their challenge in Budapest against the second Whiteley FC squad, Whiteley VII. In the Algarve last year this squad finished runners-up in the Wooden Spoon.

Past performance would suggest MacBengals were favourites to win this and that is exactly what they did. Toby Gardner scored his team's first goal of the day to set the ball rolling before Ali Phipps made it 2-0. The two goals earned three points and it was a great start for MacBengals. Whiteley VII did not get off to the start they wanted but had three more games to put things right.

Next up on Pitch C was Budapest Celtic Tigers against Deportivo Lack of Talent. The Hungarian team forged ahead in the first half through Tamas Berkes and that's the way it stayed until half-time.

In the second half either Budapest Celtic Tigers roared into 5th gear or Deportivo Lack of Talent tired, wilted in the sun or wilted under the weight of hangover. Whatever the reason, the goals flowed as freely as last night's beers as Michael Globits scored twice, Tamas Berkes scored twice to complete his hat-trick and there were goals for Juanma Guirado and captain Leo Kronberger.

It was a 7-0 win for Budapest Celtic Tigers as they hit top spot early. Deportivo would need to forget this game and start afresh in their next fixture.

The second French team in the tournament, Centrale Paris B, would play their first game against MacBengals who had already warmed up with a 2-0 victory. In an entertaining first-half the teams shared three goals with the French edging it 2-1. Jerome Delplace and Matheus Ribeiro scored for Centrale Paris B but Ian Balding's goal kept MacBengals in it.

In the second half MacBengals needed a strong performance to avoid their first defeat but Centrale Paris B proved a stubborn obstacle. When the final whistle went there was no further addition to the score and the French ran out 2-1 winners. They joined Budapest Celtic Tigers and MacBengals at the top of Group C – all on 3 points.

Whiteley VII had a formidable task in their second game as they came up against a Budapest Celtic Tigers team who had just won 7-0. The English team were looking for their first win and early signs were it was not going to come in this game.

The Tigers carried on from where they left off in the last game as Michael Globits, Juanma Guirado (2) and Tamas Berkes all scored for the second successive game. The goals meant that the Hungarian team won 4-0 and were looking impressive at the top of Group C with 11 goals in 2 games and goalkeeper Janos Petervari still to concede. Whiteley VII had two games left to open their account.

Game 5 in Group C and it was Deportivo Lack of Talent against Centrale Paris B. Deportivo had kept things close in the first half against Budapest Celtic Tigers before crumbling in the second half against strong opposition. In this match they once again had strong opposition and once again found themselves 1-0 down at the break as Jerome Delplace put the French ahead.

In the second half, Deportivo Lack of Talent learned their lessons from game 1 and far from crumbled. In fact, they gave their opponents a really good game and scored their first goal of the tournament through James Smith. It must have given the French a fright but they had enough in the tank as Juan Saez's goal proved to be the eventual winner. The 2-1 win put Centrale Paris B joint top, second on goal difference.
